AF and thyroid.

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with Bradycardia, but results showed both abnormal fast and slow, so believe it’s AF 🤔.

Anyway, has anybody on here got thyroid vascular issues and bradycardia/AF?

A slow or fast heartbeat doesn't mean that you have Atrial Fibrillation. AF is typified by a completely irregular resting heartrate with no pattern to it. It is diagnosed from analysis of an ECG.

Hi Paul,

I had a 7 day holt monitor showing random very low and very high heart beats. Then the ‘gold star’ (told) heart scan.

Originally the Bradycardia was picked up on more than one ecg, hence following on with the above.

Heart consulted diagnosed Bradycardia but reported the intermittent both abnormally slow and fast heart beats.

I read it can be related to thyroid issues, hence wondering if anyone on here had issues with both.

About 13 years ago, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid which was associated with low heart rate and high blood pressure, amongst all sorts of other symptoms. I was started on thyroid hormone replacement therapy and for the last 10 years or so, my thyroid blood tests have been normal.

4 years ago, I was diagnosed with heart block (a type of bradycardia) which is treated with a pacemaker. When I go for my annual pacemaker checks, the Physiologists always make a point of telling me that I get regular episodes of tachycardia, but they don't seem too bothered about it so I haven't seen a cardiologist.

Dr Google will tell you that bradycardia can be associated with underactive thyroid, and tachycardia can be associated with overactive thyroid, but I don't know if you can get both.

I still don't know whether my heart block has been caused by my thyroid issues, but I like to think that maybe they have something to do with it.
