Horrendous bad night caused by firstly being given fusimide at 10pm, from that moment I was going to the loo every 20 mins up until 6 am this morning. But to do this I had to walk to the toilet, about 25 feet, with mega chest pain and I mean mega and breathing difficulties and the only way I could do it is by using a walking frame. My mobility is not zero it is minus 50 but they keep saying it will improve. And subject to an ECG they r looking to release me today. I hope they’re right

I was given furosemide after my Bypasses it really does make you go to the toilet for me with force I took it for a few months as I know it is a good drug to stop getting water retention but then eventually I had to swap it but if you can put up with it for now and see how things go
Sorry you did not have a good night it can be like that to start with but things will improve as well as doing the breathing exercises I hope they have given you keep those up
I am sure after all this they would not discharge you if they did not think you were ready
Take things slowly a day at a time remember this is very early days and it takes time but you will get there x
All rests on the ECG I had this morning, I know how good fusimide is but to give it to u after 10pm with severe breathing and pain doesn’t make sense, so far I think I’ve been 16 times throughout the night
You won't be sent home unless you are ready to be discharged but you will feel so much better back in your own home. The physio made sure I could walk upstairs before being sent home, which surprisingly I could do so much more easily than before my op. I surprised myself! Do you have anyone at home to help you for the first few days at least. Keep up your pain relief, don't try & be brave, ask for more if you need it. You will be sent home with pain killers. I had to take Frumil for 3 weeks post op but only once a day so took it in the morning and it didn't disturb my sleep by having to keep going to the bathroom. I just slept whenever I felt tired & that does go on for a few weeks then suddenly you realise that you are not napping any more in the day. You are doing fine - it's only been a few days since your op & it will get better, I promise, just take whatever time you need 😊!,
I'm on furosemide (40mg) but the instructions say it should not be taken after 4p.m. otherwise you will get no rest at night. Mine is strictly marked for morning only on my drugs chart (I've got an A4 sheet as my 'Medication Information Card' which I should carry at all times). I'm clear of the effect about midday when I take it at about 07:30.
Ahh mate you poor thing, yeah furisomode can be rough I've been on that I found it to have the opposite affect I couldn't go to the toilet. Sounds like they might be sending you home a bit too soon don't be afraid to say if your not ready to go home. I was in hospital and I was barely eating, lost like 3 stone in weight was on magnesium drips and they was trying to send me home so I said I'm clearly not ready to go home look at me, I got so annoyed. Anyway hope your ecg shows what's causing the chest pain x
hi. It sounds horrendous but hopefully you will be well enough to be discharged soon (don’t let them send you home too soon though) I only really started to recover when I was back in my own home. Furosemide is efficient but they shouldn’t be giving you it at night for that reason. I’m afraid that they are always playing catch up with dispensing medications so you’ll be getting stuff hours too late all of the time. After I had my first open heart surgery they were truly awful with pain relief and at one point (the day after I left itu) my painkillers were given to me 5 hours after they were due. It was one of the worst days of my life where I really wished I was dead as the pain was so bad. I was also left for days with iv tubes in me which should have been taken out after each antibiotic infusion. I ended up with thrombosis. I made a formal complaint and got all the usual responses about staff shortages etc. You need to be assertive and not let them forget about you. I know it goes against the grain to be demanding with NHS staff but you need to look after yourself. X
Sorry to hear you had such a bad night after a late dose of Frusemide.I have stage 3 kidney disease so for me walking back and forth to the toilet is a nightly routine and it's literally ten steps from my bedroom to my bathroom. Yes it drives me nuts and why aren't I like this during the day.
I do believe if there's anything wrong or the doctors are concerned about they won't discharge you. I had lung surgery in my late twenties back in the day when after surgery you were in hospital for a week or more. I did feel very weak after my surgery and was slightly concerned at going home but my colleagues in the ward looked after me really well and I have never forgotten that.
Yes when I got home to my husband and two small children it was an adjustment nobody made me a cup of tea or looked after me. It was return to home duty and get on with it for me and I was fine. I understand there's a huge difference between heart surgery and lung surgery. It was so lovely to be in my own bed and I feel once your Frusemide meds are taken of a morning and you get a good night's sleep you'll start to pick up.
Hi Ted, I'm so sorry that you've had such a bad night, it really doesn't help with your recovery when you're unable to sleep with the noise and having to run to and fro to the loo all night! After my bypass op I was prescribed furosemide, I think most people are, to be taken for two weeks only - it was a real nuisance during those two weeks, but it definitely stopped any fluid gathering where it shouldn't and I took it before lunchtime every day. The bottom of my leg was quite swollen where they'd removed the veins and the furosemide took it away really quickly. Please be insistent and let them know that you'd prefer to have the furosemide earlier in the day and explain why. Also, if you don't feel ready to go home, do tell them that you don't feel you'd be able to cope just yet. Let them know if your bathroom's upstairs that you won't be able to get there if you're still depending on your walking frame. Tell them that you're still suffering quite bad pain and ask for stronger pain relief as well.
You're really doing amazingly well, it's still very early days after such a big op. You'll find, once you get back home that you'll be able to get into a proper routine again and your recovery will come on steadily. We're all still rooting for you and looking forward to your updates to hear how you're getting on. Honestly, Ted - I'm sure it doesn't feel like it at this time, but it really does get better. I live alone and went home four/five days after my op, but after spending the previous six weeks in hospital, that first night in my own bed with no bleeps & odd noises and strange people walking me up at various times through the night to take blood pressure etc. - it just felt like heaven and I slept for 7 hours straight! That's when you'll really start to recover. 😀
Sorry to hear you had such a bad time last night. You must be longing for a good kip 🥱🥱🥱. If you are discharged remember to take it very easy and look after yourself. The good thing is that they consider you well enough. Hope you get discharged and get home. It will be so good to get out of that environment. All the best for your recovery. 👏👏👍
