Had cardiology check up today Dr happy with everything - had aortic valve replaced) I also had sepsis and came off antibiotics 2 weeks ago. Was feeling happy then my blood test results came through showing CRP (infection marker) has gone up - worried sepsis could be coming back - I'm due back at work next week.

Was the doctor concerned? CRP shows if there's inflammation... there could be residual inflammation from the sepsis (it takes time to clear) or there could be an unrelated infection like a cold...

Of course please keep an eye on your symptoms and if you notice anything untoward then get seen to straight away.

I went to charing Cross and they have a thing you can register to that emails you to advise when there are test results or appointments so I got the email in the evening once I got home. I'm sure they'll phone if they want to do more tests or put me back on antibiotics. I was feeling really good after the appointment as everything was positive

I’m really not saying this to scare you and I nearly didn’t reply but I wish someone had alerted me when the same thing happened. I had a mitral valve replacement and then got sepsis. They kept me in hospital for 2 weeks and gave me iv antibiotics. I was discharged with no follow up. I felt better for a short while but then started to feel rubbish, I also suffered a stroke out of the blue. My crp went up and so did my inr. I had developed subacute endocarditis but it took nearly 2 months to be diagnosed. I’d not heard of endocarditis before. I’m not saying this is what you have but please ask your GP to do all the relevant tests. If you have had a valve replaced you are at risk, much better to get checked just incase. I honestly don’t want to scare you I just wish someone had alerted me. CRP can also be raised for a number of other issues, including recent surgery so please don’t fear the worst. Xx

I noticed my CRP was considerably raised after hip replacement.

Was on antibiotics from Easter until 2 weeks ago when CRP was 2, today it's 9. 9. No temperature and everything else today was good. I feel fine otherwise. While I was on antibiotics I had to go to Charing Cross every week for blood tests (I live 30 miles away) so not looking forward to having to do that again if they want me back on antibiotics and had everything arranged with work to go back next Tues (phased return) but if that's what I need

9.9 isn’t too bad at all, my crp was over 200 before I was diagnosed. Obviously I’m not a doctor but 9.9 doesn’t appear to indicate anything too serious. I’m recovered from endo and surgery, my crp is about 7 at the moment and my gp isn’t concerned at all. If you are feeling ok, no temperature etc then it’s probably nothing to worry about. Obviously I’m not a doctor so be guided by what they say. Feel terrible that I might have worried you unnecessarily X

Just had letter emailed to me from Dr I saw yesterday just says levels "mildly elevated" no mention of needing further tests or more antibiotics, just says if ever I feel ill to make sure whoever I see takes blood cultures before giving antibiotics - phew 😊

hi. That’s really good news and I’m sure that you must feel very relieved. I feel relieved for you. That’s good advice about doing the blood cultures before antibiotics. It’s one of the mistakes they made with me. They put me straight on iv antibiotics then did blood cultures hours afterwards. Xx
