Quiet day today, only person I’ve spoke to is a pigeon outside the window. But my anxiety jumped when it shouldn’t have, and I may have worked out why. My surgeon is still not back ( private practice) and I have this terrible fear that they will try to switch him. I and my family do not want this. My reasons are, 1- hes one of the top in the country, 2- he has a 97% success rate, 3- keyhole, which he does is less invasive. I will have a word on the drs round tomorrow but I’m not quite sure how to word it without giving them the hump
I can honestly tell you with what they have done for me so far, I’m actually fitter than I was when I had a serious operational 25 yrs ago, I did not take that one at all serious, after all it was my scrumping days when I was out and about all over the place, and I also think I am prob at least the same weight.
On Saturday the Dr allowed me to walk up the corridor to see how my distance has improved, when I came in it was about 5ft sucking air like a goldfish, in the walk, it must have been 100 yds before I stopped
As said I’m getting oxygen levels of 96-98% so I’m thinking r they gonna say let’s get him in with someone else
So you can see where I’m coming from I think
Thanks all

I can definitely see where your coming from you want someone who has a high success rate but he's not available that would make my anxiety go through the roof aswell. Glad to hear your doing so much better though! X
I'm not surprised you feel like you are crawling up the walls staying in hospital and the wait for surgery is torture. It's good that you are feeling much fitter than you were though, that must be giving you some peace of mind about how well you can cope with the surgery.
I wouldn't worry about having your surgeon changed. If that surgeon has said they will do your procedure and you would prefer to stick with them you have the right to choose that . Even if it means you may be in the bed a while longer while you wait for him to be in to do his NHS list.
You have explained your reasons well here , you can use the same reasons to explain why you don't want you surgeon or your care plan to change with any doctors whom offer you an alternative.
You confidence and peace of mind are important in making these decisions.
Take care , I hope your pigeon comes back tomorrow for another chat , hugs , Bee
hi. I agree with what Blearyeyed says, you should be allowed a choice in who does your surgery. You shouldn’t feel anxious about telling them that you’d like to stick with the same surgeon. I’m sure they have heard it many times. You need to be prepared that you might have to wait though for that surgeon to be available. You need to weigh up which is the best option for you. X
Wow you are making great progress this must be reassuring for you 🙌🏿 However I totally understand your anxiety re surgeon/consultant change. Us hearties are very good at worrying about worrying 😉
In my personal experience consultants & or surgeons do not like to be changed. In my family we sadly have experience of all sorts inc cardiac, neuro, orthopaedic, gynae and so on 🤦🏽♀️ So Im really hopeful you will continue with your surgeon, you are on his/her list. Definitely speak up and explain your concerns and as you have improved the wait is not such a worry as it might have been. I have everything crossed for you 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
I sent a message through to the Dr that I want it done in the least possible way which would be tavi. Also just found out that although I’ve been here 13 days, there’s 2 patients in the ward, ones been here 6 weeks the other 11 weeks, and as far as I know they’re ops went well.
Thats v good to hear as it means they aren't in any hurry to rush patients through & are allowing v good recovery periods & monitoring. I really hope you are reassured by this and that you get confirmation of tavi soon 🙏🏼❤️
I just wanted to say “hello” and that I am happy to read that you seem to be doing better! The fact that you can walk so much farther now than when you first got to the hospital is certainly encouraging and positive.
I hope that you are able to wait for your surgeon of choice to return for your procedure. I know that that would give you increased peace of mind. In the meantime, try to relax some (much easier said than done, I know) and stay calm.
I will be looking forward to your follow up posts, and I will send a virtual hug. Best wishes! ❤️
As I said dr actually asked me which way I wanted surgery !! Bit bemused with that, I’m not the expert. It seems if I wait for my surgeon who’s on annual leave, I’ll be in here for another week or more ( 14days so far) kept in same room, because I’m afraid they r short of staff and drs, but if I have tavi it can be done quicker I’ll speak to the dr on the next ward round
