recently was put on 10mg prevastatin 3 weeks this Monday. My history with statins not good tried three over the years but got bad muscle pain. I was hoping this wouldn’t give me any but now experiencing abit of muscle pain in my leg top area at front and shoulders slight ache I am running out of options but will this muscle pain go away in time do you think it’s not severe was taking q10;along side with it but apparently it’s increasing my blood pressure so not taken one today. Is it worth putting up with it got an appointment with nurse Tuesday morning

I too had the same problems and have now been started on the new drug bempedoic acid instead of statins . Ask if you can be put on the new drug it may be better for you .

I am on prevastatin just been increased to 20mg, I was having muscle pain and backache was sure it was the statins but when I had a blood test it came up that I had very low vitamin D deficiency so I take 1 vitamin a day and for the last month I haven’t had any pain in my legs, still get backache sometimes but feeling lots better .

Interesting -when I went to a London hospital Lipid Clinic the consultant advised me to take vitD. I asked how that was related and she said it wasn’t but the pains/problems from being deficient can easily be confused with statin issues. I also had a vitD test that day ( early January) which came back showing I was very slightly in the deficient category. I now take vitD daily from Sept to March or thereabouts. If the weather gets any worse I’ll be thinking about recommencing…

I couldn't cope with Atorvastatin, Pravastatin or Simvastatin due to muscle aches. Now on Rosuvastatin. I had a bit of a headache initially, but no sign of muscle aches.

I also had muscle aches on Atorvasatin, and Pravastatin and felt tired when I exercised. Now on low dose 5mg Rosuvastatin and I seem to be tolerating it a lot better.

Hi 👋🏽,

I tried a few different statins and did not get on with them. After having a heart attack I was told had to take them as a secondary prevention. They gave me Rosuvastin from the hospital. They have worked well and I’ve had no side effects. Good luck with your appointment.

I am statin intolerant. I’ve tried several and landed up with muscle wastage. I know it’s rare but that didn’t help me. I am still suffering the consequences. You need to speak with your doctor. Take advice from them. If you really cannot tolerate them and there is no option try and deal with it with your diet. It help in some cases. Wish you luck. I would not want to put up with the muscle pain again, I tried and tried but in the end I do not take them. I am giving estemibe a go at present.

So sorry to hear that, I was the same .. terrible muscle pain. I did some research and found that Cholesterol lowering drugs actually break down muscles. I found that Niacin will lower Cholesterol plus has soooo many other benefits. Now I take Niacin 500 mg twice a day with food or a cup of applesauce which cuts the flush. Please research for yourself and perhaps bring this to the attention of your doctor. I researched that taking extremely high dose of Niacin can increase blood sugar levels, however 500 mg twice a day is fine for ME. Blessings
