On renewing my car insurance this year I noticed that my heart condition is on the ‘to be declared’ list. (Which is funny because it’s not needed to be declared when applying for a drivers licence still). This means that as I have a congenital heart disease I have to make the DVLA aware. Has anyone else been through this and what responses are to be expected from the DVLA?
On the health questionnaire, I have been able to confirm my doctor approves me driving but the follow on question states “do you suffer from symptoms that are dangerous to driving?” Eg chest pain and palpitations- of course I’ve had to confirm I suffer palpitations, although they’re maintained well by medication. Now I’m worried this will have a severe effect on my application.

Due to extensive heart problem and a Pacemaker fitted I lost my licence with very little hope of ever getting it back. But I have SDS, sudden death syndrome, so didn't expect anything else. But this post is about you not me and we are all individuals with different outcomes to our diagnosis .
You are best to contact your Dr/Cardiologist team and find out the severity of your condition, they can supply you written evidence to forward to the DLVA to help with your case.
Try not to worry, many still drive with varying heart problems its just harder to get though { understandably } the red tape.
Unless your palpitations have ever caused you to pass out/black over, they will not stop you from obtaining insurance for driving. You have them under control with medication, so they are certainly not dangerous with regards to your driving.
