Writing for the third time in a couple days. Elevated D-dimer

So I was struggling again with the chest pain and stuff caved in and went to the hospital, ECG good, all bloods, troponin was 4 so good however sadly right at the end the doctor said my d dimer is elevated 0.6 range (0-0.5) so I’ve been put on blood thinners as a precaution.

Now Fucking frightened that I’m going to die now from this, I’m getting a chest CT next week to check. Doctor said he’s pretty sure it ain’t due to it only being so slightly elevated. I’m just so scared like what if it travels to my heart I don’t know.

Like it feels like a nightmare

I wouldn’t worry, that’s borderline. My D Dimer has been borderline/elevated since Summer 2022 and no reason found or further investigations carried out since a CTPA scan earlier this year.

The blood thinners like you said, are a precaution. It’s likely they may take you off it at some point. I was given a blood thinner when my D Dimer was elevated in Summer 2022. They took me off the blood thinner when my CTPA came back clear, so I was only on it for a day. They won’t keep you on unnecessary medication at your age if it’s not required.

If you’re feeling particularly unwell, 111 is always available which you know but I really don’t think you have anything to worry about up until your test next week.

Glad you got checked for peace of mind. Sorry to hear its elevated a bit. Good that there being careful by putting you on blood thinners as a precaution but as tos92 explained so well you probably won't be on for long. Hope everything is ok how's the chest pain???

I have had a slightly raised d dimer in the past. I was admitted to hospital.

I had a ultrasound on my calf, a chest xray and was treated with heparin injections. I had a very small blood clot in my lower leg.

I am now on clopidogrel, an antiplatelet for life.

When I am in hospital I am given heparin injections and have to wear antithrombotic stockings.

Has anybody discussed antiphospholipid syndrome, APS with you?

It's a possible cause of chest pain with unobstructed coronary arteries.

I was screened for APS many years ago as a possible cause of my angina and blood clot.
