Hello, I'm 76 years old and was taken to hospital with suspected sepsis on April 30th. Turns out I didn't have sepsis but did have a very bad UTI which wasn't responding to antibiotics. After being in hospital a couple of days a cardiologist came to see me and told me that my blood results showed that I had had a heart attack! I was very surprised as I had no chest pains and the only symptom I had was feeling tight chested and breathing was hard work. I thought it was Asthma which I had as a child. I was allowed home after one week and didn't feel too bad but I had frequent bouts of breathlessness. I'm on Ticagrelor which says this is likely to be a side affect which should clear but so far it hasn't. I was supposed to have an appointment this coming week at the respiratory clinic but had a letter yesterday saying my appointment has been changed and put back another month!Am I worrying unnecessarily about this? Should I try to get an earlier appointment?

Hi Aquagran

I can’t answer specifically to any of your questions as I don’t have any relevant experience but I just wanted to say welcome to the forum and it sounds like you’ve been through quite a frightening ordeal. That’s a lot of information to take in and I empathise with why you’re worrying.

I think if it would help you to feel better and like you’ve got a bit more control over the situation then there’s no harm in making a call to see whether you can get an appointment on an earlier date. Don’t ask, don’t get 🙂

Hopefully some other members will be along shortly to share some lived experiences.

In the meantime, be kind to yourself and take it easy. Hope you get some answers soon.

Best wishes
