I have ectopic beats. Have been on Metropolol, it is not working anymore. I have been prescribed sotolol, but like many others I am concerned about the warnings. I feel I have put weight on with Metropolol. Can anyone relate or have felt the same.
Thanks in advance

Dear Jackodiamonds
A warm welcome to the forum , I hope that it will be as informative and supportive to you as it has to me and many others.
I am sorry that your medication is not working for you and it has been recommended that you changed to other in the "olol" family.
With all medication there can be side effects, weight gain is very common and has to be managed as it creeps up slowly, the only thing to check is when the gain comes on fast and a check for water retention is needed.
Please don't worry about what might happen, your medical team are trying to do the best for you, and maybe this drug will help without adding any other problems.
Take care and please keep us informed, your information may also do someone else good.
The list is extensive but main points are Breathlessness , swollen ankles and tummy, feeling tired, listless, generally heavy, but remember all these things could be attributed to other things. Pressing points just above the ankle and if it leaves indentations { white } is also a sign.
I have no experience of the medication that you take. In terms of the ectopics, as many members will tell you here, they are pretty harmless. These are extra or skipped beats. I’m assuming that because you’re on medication for them, you must be experiencing them on a higher level. However, please remember that they do not cause any immediate danger to you.
What investigations were carried out before your diagnosis and medication plan?
thank you for your comments. I had 3 day halter monitor before i was put on Metropolol. It was due to the fact I was symptomatic with the ectopic beats. I get quite a physical experience of the arrhythmia. Apparently people are not always aware of the ectopic beats. Although reading through this site I see so many people suffer with the anxiety of this problem
Yes, there is often a lot of anxiety attached to arrhythmias and ectopic beats. Once you learn that they are harmless for the most part, you will find that your anxiety eases. I think once they become noticeable, it’s hard not to think about them which increases the anxiety further. As you’re on medication for it, I should hope that this limits how many episodes or ectopic beats you’re experiencing.
I was on sotolol for many years and it served me well until eventually it stopped working for me, no side effects so to speak of, a little tired at first but my body adjusted.
I was put on bisoprolol and flecanaide a couple of years ago but had to stop the flec as it was affecting my heart muscle! Now on bisoprolol, ramipril, apixaban and a statin.
Had an angiogram a couple of weeks ago, fortunately the arteries are fine but discovered a was in persistent AF! I didn’t have a clue. Cardiologist doubled my bisoprolol as my heart rate was over a hundred and wants to do a cardio version with a view to doing an ablation if converted to normal synus rhythm, which I’m not too sure about.
I know one thing this AF journey is an ever changing one 😩
