Sleeping too much

I've notice since my cardiac event last year I'm sleeping alot more than I did before.

I set an alarm during the week but don't over the weekend and can sleep for nearly 10 hours also used to toss and turn before but now as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm gone and sleep throughout the night uninterrupted should I worry as they say as you get older you need less sleep.

Hi Coopergirl52

I would love to sleep as well as you. I wish I’d fall straight to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow 😂.

What maybe causing it is the medications you’re on. I remember when I initially started a course of my heart meds after my heart attack, it caused a lot tiredness and fatigue.

If the symptoms are particularly worrying you, it is always a good idea to let your GP know too.

All the best.

Hi Coopergirl

I either crash out and don’t wake up until the alarm goes off or I toss and turn for hours, I never had issues sleeping before HA but I didn’t sleep so very deeply either I think the meds has an affect if you are not falling asleep during the day or struggling to stay awake when you should be awake I would just enjoy the good night time rest, and some people sleep more not less the older they get 😂

hi Iv got heart failure and i sleep a lot. Most days I have a sleep in the afternoon if I don’t I can’t stay awake in the evenings. I thought as you get older you sleep less. I would get advice from your doctor. Mine told me it’s the medication im taking

Hi Cooper girl,

If you are concerned then maybe when you next see the GP you should mention it - just in case your Meds might need adjusting slightly, but if you are not falling asleep during the day then I would suggest that at weekend you are just catching up for the weekly tiredness that you are unknowingly fighting through because you have things to get up & do.
