Been given the go ahead to resume swimming albeit to start gently and avoid front crawl to begin with.Haven't had the courage to book a swim just yet. Little bit nervous as my spot of bother all began towards the end of my last swim in November.

It will be good to meet up with fellow swimmers once I put my big boy pants on, or should that be big boy jammers?

Its definitely the best exercise you can do. Take it slowly at first. Enjoy .

Thank you, it's something I love and so good for both mental and (well, usually 🙂) physical health.

know what you mean about the nerves. likewise it was while swimming in November that my heart event occurred whilst doing breaststroke, it went when I did front crawl! now have the go-ahead to swim but its hard to be confident after all this - took the plunge last friday albeit very cautiously. good luck and enjoy your swims

I thought I'd just pulled a muscle in my forearm as I was approaching a mile into the swim. I actually stopped, waited for it to ease and then carried on to finish! I've swum a lot further without any (obvious) problems so it was a real shock at the hospital later.

very similar with me thought I had just pulled my chest muscles/sternum, kept swimming. kept saying I couldn't possible have a heart issue, must be muscles when I got to hospital

I never really had any chest pain, I did have a wave of severe nausea in the changing room followed by epic burping though. I walked home afterwards and it was several hours later after I started to complain that I didn't feel "quite right" did we call 111 who promptly sent out an ambulance. Took around 4-5 hours before in A&E before Dr dropped the bombshell. Even after that no-one seemed overly concerned and I was even allowed to disconnect myself from the monitor to walk to the loo. Didn't get taken to CCU until breakfast time the following morning. Best wishes for your continued recovery.

good for you!

I’m sure once you’ve made it past that first slow swim they’ll be no stopping you.

I can’t wait to get back to swimming, or cycling or even the odd run! But I get what you mean. My HA in December was when I was 15 miles out on a ride.

Being out on a bike at some point fills me with trepidation especially the thought of being on my own. Don’t think that will be anytime soon sadly

All the best

Thanks, I love swimming and really miss it. At least in the pool I wont be alone and I know the lifeguards pretty well, they all ask after me, as do many of the other regulars, when my wife goes for her swim. Best wishes for your recovery and hope you are back on the bike soon. That's something I used to do a lot of back in the day, I even managed LE to JoG.

Take it slow and steady, it is surprising how getting back in the water helps with emotional and physical recovery x

Thank you, swimming is important "me" time for me, it's where I put on my goggles, slip in the ear buds and turn on the music and forget about things for a bit. Hope I can get back to that

Take it easy and hopefully those bad memories can be erased by good ones!

Cardio rehab advised me to warm up and cool down by walking in the water - I still follow this as it seemed to make sense
