hi,
As a pretty common issue with statins, I am getting terrible restless legs.
Docs tried lowering dose, switching type etc, but still the same.
Anyone got any tips on how to manage the pain?
thanks in advance .

If you cannot tolerate statins there are alternatives available see below

I suggest you go back to your GP to discuss. The bottom line for me would be are the benefits from taking cholesterol reducing medication outweighed by the unpleasant side effects they induce. And if your natural total cholesterol level is marginal as to whether you actually need medication that is also relevant.
many thanks
Maybe it is not statins? A colleague it on any medication developed this when he was about 60. One possible cause is iron deficiency - has your GP run any blood tests besides the usual cholesterol, liver function and HbA1c? He is treated with Gabapentin the same drug I am prescribed for phantom pain.
thanks for this. Have bloods booked in 2 weeks, so hopefully will flag one way or other
You could try magnesium oil spray on your legs before bed and rub into the skin. I get muscle twitches in my legs at night and this seems to help. The one I use is made by 'Better You' and available on Amazon. It causes a little burning sensation for a while though and then your body gets used to it, there is also one for sensitive skin which is weaker and I use that one.
One word of warning, it can sting if you have any cuts on your hands or legs when you rub it in
Good luck!

My husband and I used to have restless legs. (We have both been on statins for years.) In fact I had forgotten all about that. We take magnesium capsules and they seemed to have worked for us. However, I'm not going to suggest that you go out and buy them. Ask your doctor about them first. Goodd luck.
Similar to Kubus, I use Better You Magnesium Sleep body lotion. It definitely seems to help and I wouldn’t be without it now. I only use it on my legs. No stinging involved !
Do you take them at night? Have you tried them in the morning?
I am suffering back Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), I do take additional vitamins with my medication, and GP is aware of my RLS, as seems to be part of my AFib getting worse. Spoken to Cardio consultant, and they are adjusting my meds, as also with my RLS, which sees me kicking out, twitching legs, legs moving, could be a vitamin deficiency, or liver, thyroid or kidney issue due to medication. GP is monitoring me and doing regular blood tests every 3 months to try and find the answer. This is just my experience, I am no doctor, always best to speak with you doctor/consultant and even ask for a second opinion.
