Dapagliflozin. Forixga. Only day 2 but woke up feeling so tired and drowsy. Is this normal?

So started this med 2 days ago and last night went to bed feeling tired and almost drowsy on the verge or vertigo type of feeling. Managed to get off and sleep decent except for some nightmares which is also unusual. Woke up feeling like i could go back to bed and feeling drowsy, or a feeling of floating. Aniexity is now also starting to creep in.

Is this normal with this drug at the beginning? I know it could be a whole range of things but if others have experienced this then i can point it to that and shrug it off. Thanks.

Dear you,

It may well be 'norma'l for you, for everyone that takes this, and any other drug, will have completely different side effects, some very physical and others mental.

When I started this drug { as far as I can tie it down to the Dapagliflozin } my side effect was a wooly hat feeling, not quite a headache but like I was still wearing the wooden hat that I had taken the dog out wearing.

Sometimes it feels like I have my glasses on top of my head { comes as a surprise to find them not there }

But I am lucky { if that's a word I can use } that most side effects on some of these remarkable meds have passed me by, or if not, have been mild before passing.

I found that my pharmacist was very clued up on the drugs that I am on, their intervention and certainly what to look out for in side effects.

I hope all settles for you soon.

Take care

On the NHS site it lists dizziness as a common side effect, I only know this because I was looking today as I think it has given me thrush, another common side effect.

I would say give it a few days to settle as when they added amiodarone I had this feeling of light headedness but it has now faded away.

Hello I don't seem to have any side effects from this medication, aware of thrush being a side effect but been clear of this !

Hi

For me, I’ve found myself to be suffering with fatigue but as I returned to work after 4 and a half years away from the business it’s incredibly hard to know which one is the primary culprit (although I personally suspect the latter).

I’ve also had the vertigo type feeling that you have mentioned although generally speaking they’re short lived (a few seconds almost like I feel I’m going to fall off my chair for no apparent reason and then it passes).

If I’m woken up in the night I wake to my heart pounding and racing, just a bit erratic and a feeling of being unable to move sometimes but again it seems to settle after 30 seconds, occasionally a bit longer. I’ve made a note and intend to raise it with my gp during my medication review. I’ll let you know what they say but it might be a good idea to discuss your symptoms with your gp to iron out the kinks for you 🙂

Best wishes

Thank you. I just replied to you on another post. Yes i will stick it out for now. My sleepiness is actually helping me get a great night sleep and mellows me out abit with aniexity problems. So that side effect i suppose is kind of helpful. Even though my health aniexity mind is saying, "nope. Its your heart getting worse! Thats why your sleepy!" 😅🤦‍♂️

Also was going to ask do you get a flushed face with this med? I noticed this coming on. Maybe just the heart fialure itself or just the cold weather 🤦‍♂️my aniexity gets the better of me and i know it.

That’s interesting you say that. I’ve been itching all over my body since day 3 of taking this medication and I’ve been told by a gp last Friday that they think I have rosacea as a side effect of the dapagliflozin even though it isn’t listed in the side effects. I’m now having to use an antibiotic gel to manage that but it’s causing my face to flush too.

Hmm that's strange. Maybe it is a side then. Also my tummy feels empty, kind of like im hungry. And one last thing thats come on today is a weird feeling when swallowing. 🤦‍♂️ All this 1st week. Hopefully it settles. Thanks for replying ☺️

Ooh those are new ones on me! I definitely think it would be worth a chat with your GP, just to rule out anything they might be aware of that we aren’t and also to give you piece of mind, you can’t put a price on it and it can make all the difference with settling anxiety.

Wishing you all the best, keep us posted with how you get on 👍🏻

Hi

I was on Dapagliflozin for about 4 weeks last year but became increasingly unwell with dizziness, visual problems and extreme tiredness. My BP is low normal anyway but dropped further.

As this all took place during one of our really warm spells last year, I initially thought it was the heat which is why I persevered. However as soon as I stopped the Dapagliflozin I started to feel better and within a few days was back to my normal self.

I was disappointed as it is a very good drug in heart failure. The consensus was it probably lowered my blood pressure too much.

Hi there sorry to hear that you feel Dapagliflozin is causing you problems I was prescribed it to help with my problems but it did not suit me as I progressively became more tired, began to loose weight and my blood pressure became very low so my cardiologist took me of it I am told that generally it's a good drug to take for heart failure so it may be worth persevering a little to see if things improve Regards DaveB

Hi Dave. Yes i am extremely tired now. I woke up tired that day. Tonight i am ready for bed at 7.30pm. So sleepy. It has been good in that i have been getting a full night's sleep but i am extra sleepy throughout. I will stick it out and see how it goes. At least do the month.
