Hi, I have joined the understanding & lowering your cholesterol group and it has prompted me to look at how I can lower my cholesterol but seeings that its my “ so called, good cholesterol “ that needs lowering I am stumped, I can’t find anything that makes any sense. Any help great fully appreciated.

If you have recently been tested, your GP should be able to explain what the results mean for you and whether any action is necessary.
Certainly the basic norms are to try to get the total cholesterol below the recommended limit, and the correct balance between HDL( good cholesterol) and other lipids perhaps by lifestyle changes enhanced by meds like statins all as necessary.

Thank you for your reply. So far the doctor hasn’t offered any reasonings but has offered statins, which I am researching at the mo, but it seems that they will lower my bad cholesterol, and not my good cholesterol, which seems opposite to what I actually require.
It seems that high HDL with normal levels of non-HDL is an area which needs more research to gain a better understanding. Here is another link to Heart Uk that might interest you.
