I read an article today cant remember exactly what it was about but I remember this word or phrase stood out to me because I've seen this on a recent hospital letter every time I try and look up what it means it talks about Heart failure?? So is that what it means 😳??
What does preserved systolic function... - British Heart Fou...
What does preserved systolic function mean?
Yeah it does thanks I don't know why when I researched it kept taking bout heart failure so I started panicking cause no matter what website I looked on kept talking bout heart failure for some reason so I was like is that what it means?? So relived no it mean its normal lol. Well normal for me anyway 😅
Just gona add mine is 59% so that's good I don't get why it said preserved why not just normal lol.
Thanks for explaining it really appreciate it you know I never thought to ask what it meant to my cardiologist lol 🤔😂💭
There are 3 types of heart failure . HF with reduced EF (HFrEF). HF with preserved EF, (HFpEF.) And there is now also another category, HFmrEF, this is when your EF has improved from HFrEF & is now only mildly reduced so I'd classed as mid range. Hope this makes sense, if not the link below will explain it better
Wow it does thanks. Is it possible mine is HF with preserved systolic function I'm not sure if mixed valve disease is classed as HF, also VSD, VT,.
I'm sorry I have no idea if you have HFpEF, that's a question for your medical team. I don't know a great deal about HFpEF as it's only started to be recognised in the last few years and there's been very little in the way of medication for it up till recently. I may be wrong but I think it was called diasystolic dysfunction previously. However it's now very much in vogue & there's a big push in getting meds for it. My husband has HPrEF so I'm more aware of that type of HF.
When I say recent I mean in medical terms, so its been known as HFpEF for some years but hasn't really been given the attention HFrEF has. Good luck with your consultant, maybe post his answer here?
it means it’s ok! As in has been “preserved’ - it’s still good despite what happened 😊
