Cafetierre or filtered coffee which is better for cholesterol?

Did anyone have any thoughts or articles on whether filter coffee is in fact better than cafetierre coffee for cholesterol levels?

I've tried searching HealthUnlocked for coffee and the BHF site but I didn't see anything covering filter vs Caftierre.

I have a blood test in a few weeks so I can see some personal experimentation is called for 🤓 I can feel an aeropress may be in order.

Probably drink around 4-6 cups a day - although I think that would be less if I used a filter or Aero press and I'm not sure my wife and kids would enjoy the change!

On all honesty I believe that the difference might be immeasurable. You would be better looking at areas like diet and exercise if you have it done so already. It might be worth trying to reduce your coffee consumption ascicfee tends to increase both our HR and BP.. In some it may also arrhythmias such as AF.

+1 on what MichaelJH has said, especially about reducing your consumption. And we have a basic DeLonghi coffee machine and in my opinion it makes much better coffee than from cafetiere or filter.

Hi

When I was told that I had an issue with my heart I cut out caffeine altogether. I stick to decaf now and don't miss the real stuff at all

I've switched to decaf tea too, getting user to it now but still can taste the difference. Can't stand coffee... bleugh

The only thing about decaf tea is it doesn’t make a strong cup, but that’s fine by me, as I drink it with a fair bit of milk! 😋

I worked on building sites in my youth so tend to wave the milk at the tea. Even been known to drink it black if the milk is a bit suspect 😄

I don’t think you’ll find there’s any difference in how you make the coffee. Most if not all studies indicate that up to four coffees a day is good for your heart. I have two or three a day.

I just read an article, sorry I can’t find it that said filter coffee is best and one or two a day is good for you.

I've been drinking filter coffee for 35 years. Still had HA and cardiac arrest! There you go.

Seriously, this study pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/202... found that filter coffee is better. Will it make a difference? I'm a firm believe in controlling what you can control, so in the aggregate (with overall diet etc) it can't hurt to use filter paper.

I don't think the type of coffee machine will make the blindest bit of difference, it's the cream you add to the basic coffee that will make a difference 🤣

I don't think there is any material difference. Far better with diet to impact that.

I like a coffee but 5-6 sounds a fair amount of strong filter coffee. Think it would have my heart racing!

Don't think it matters but if you're having 4-6 cups a day make 2-3 of them decaf.

That sounds sensible. Cut down the number of strong coffees and switch to decaff as well

Decaff is definitely weaker so eventually you might find it better to stick to decaff only as otherwise you will notice the difference in taste as being a little anemic compared to the full strength stuff

Do you add milk AND sugar?

I listened to a podcast recently which talked about coffee and the pros and cons and I think made reference to heart issues & coffee too. It was a Zoe science and nutrition podcast. Made interesting listening and also went into some detail about filter vs other types of coffee and the caffeine content.

Coffee has no cholesterol in it unless you use cream, if you have info that coffee does affect cholesterol I would be interested to hear it.

I agree with you and not many people I know uses cream but rather low fat mild. Heard it causes palpitations though as its a stimulant so 6 cups a day does seem excessive. Still if its not affecting your heart rhythem I would not worry about it at all.
