Not had great news this week. I'm not tolerating entresto unfortunately. I'm staying on it for another 4 weeks and if my BP doesn't stabilise I will go onto losartan.
However, consultant wants me to start on empaglifloxin. I not entirely sure why?
Do any of you know what it does? And if you take it how you feel.
I'm currently taking entresto and bisoprolol.
Many thanks

Hey.I take dapagliflozin which I think is very similar to the one your consultant is suggesting. They are diabetes drugs but have been know to help with heart failure to help prevent your heart getting weaker. If it's like mine it's a bit like a diuretic so I have to go the toilet a fair bit but I have furosemide too so nothing major. But definitely ask your consultant or heart team about it as I'm just having a guess and looked it up.
Take it easy and hope you start to feel better soon x
I’ve been on entresto for a few weeks now and was recently put on dapagliflozin. I was warned to look out for thrush - 1 in 10 women have this side effect and 1 in 20 men.
So far I’ve tolerated all the new meds with no probs. My bp is slightly lower and stable. I check my bp at home two or three times a week.
My understanding is that the medical research boffins across Europe do regular and continuous studies of a raft of drugs to see if any can have other benefits. For example, some of these meds I’m being moved to were developed for T2 diabetes and have found to improve heart function. My atorvastatin dose has been reduced from 80mg to 40mg.
So, it seems they are simply learning more about a raft of drugs and trying to give people like us longer and better lives.
Thank you. Eplererone has also been mentioned. I'm told these drugs all work together. I don't think it's entresto that's causing BP to drop but the Bisoprolol. I'm seeing HF nurse next week so will chat to her.
Yes Entresto is quite a powerful drug,I only lasted two days taking it.On Ramipril now & doing quite well.Been on Dapaglaflozin but could tolerate that. But as I say doing quite well on my usual meds.Good luck.
Thank you. I've been on it 4 weeks and was OK until they started me on bisoprolol. It's obviously going to take time to get the right mix of medication for me
Yes entresto has its sides as soona s you take the tablet. Within 10 minutes fatigue and brain fog kicks in. Aniexity. Its tough. I split the tablet in half and spread them out through the day. Seems to help abit. Also starting that other med you said. Doc rings tomorrow about it. Skipped beats increasing though so not sure what's going on. Things seem worse since they upped the entresto. I got up to a good ef rate on the low dose.

Dear you,
Take care splitting Entresto as you cannot be sure of getting half of the dose in each half, but if its been ok by your Dr then go for it, anything that helps.
My cardiac team started me on lowest dose of entresto, over 6 weeks took it to max dose, had the runs for a couple of days on each step up, but no probs now
I am on empaglaflozin after my Mitral valve repair and being diagnosed with EF of 45. I take it in the morning along with apixaban and bisoprolol, then in the evening I have more bisop along with candestarten and apixaban. I couldn't get on with ramapril as it made everything taste wiered and they stopped the spironalacetone and lanzoprazole as I constantly had diarrhea. So far I seem to be tolerating the current cocktail well with no adverse effects. I have my next scan in a week so will be interesting to see what's going on with the old ticker now. Personally I try to go with the flow, I don't like taking all this medicine, and I must admit over the mitral was repaired I thought that would be it, so to be told I had heart failure was a bit of a shock at first. I wish they would call it compromised function or something a bit less dramatic than heart failure. It sounds so terminal, especially only 3 days after open heart surgery.... . I look at the side effects and interactions of all the drugs I get prescribed and if I get any of the ones listed I give it a few weeks to settle but then go back to the GP or pharmacist if it doesn't
Empagliflozin is one of a group of meds called SGLT2 inhibitors. As said elsewhere, they were invented to help with Diabetes. They reduce blood sugar and also have an effect on sodium reabsorption in the kidney. Trials showed that they also have an effect on HF. They reduce rehospitalisations and also extend life expectation. They are splendid drugs for us HF sufferers. They do increase sugar in urine, so can lead to thrush.
I take 10mg Empagliflozin, 5mg Bisoprolol, 50mg spiralactone and Entresto. The Empagliflozin is a recent addition following its successful trials. I haven’t noticed any significant side effects. I’m fine on Entresto as I take the middle level. I couldn’t tolerate the maximum dose as it lowered my BP too much.
Hi I have been on this drug since November and have had to stop taking it of this week, as I have developed an oral fungal infection. This is a known side effect and most painful, along with a change in taste. Everyone is different and the rest of my cocktail of drugs have been ok. It’s supposed to be an excellent treatment if you can tolerate it. Good luck.
