A lot is all in the mind

I’ve had a stent and a bout of persistent AF in the last few months, had Cardioversion to sort the At.

The Cardiologist asked me to reduce Bisoprolol,so last night was the first time I didn’t take it (just taking 3.7mg in the mornings now)I suppose I had some anxiety in the back of my mind going to bed , At 2.30 this morning I awoke from a dream feeling rough,My pulse rate ran from 60-128.

After checking the rate from when I was asleep and doing some deep breathing the rate dropped to a more normal level which further calmed me and led to me getting some more sleep.

I’m beginning to realise a lot of it is all in the mind.

it sure is!!

Anyone on this site will all relate to that bit of anxiety and panic which will naturally raise our heart rate and blood pressure etc. It is all about controlling the situation you are in with different techniques. Breathing, grounding etc. It will be a constant battle for most but one we can all achieve with putting our minds to it

A lot of what we feel is indeed from anxiety and stress that basically is in the mind. Prior to heart or other long term health problems our anxiety would have only lasted as long as or until the stressful situation was resolved which may have been from a few hours to a few days, and I believe that been diagnosed with heart issues causes long term anxiety in the vast majority of people as we really can do nothing about it other than take the meds and lifestyle advice and hope for the best. Anxiety and stress is probably more destructive to heart health than either lifestyle, diet exercise etc so it is so important to do your upmost to reliev that stress whatever way you can.
