So in September I suffered a heart attack out of the blue - the normal echocardiogram showed that my arteries were clear and healthy and i ended up being in hospital for a week whilst they tried to find a diagnosis for what happened. One of the tests uncovered a hole (PFO -Patent foramen ovale) and then after further investigation I was diagnosed with having a Paradoxical Embolism - an extremely rare event when a blood clot travels from the right to the left of your heart via the PFO ..which in my case caused me to have a heart attack. I have subsequently had surgery in December to close the hole and am currently in recovery from that.
Obviously all a bit of a shock as it wasnt something i could have prevented.... and im only in my 40's, healthy and fit. Overall i think ive handled the situation pretty well....im back working, albeit still from home, and due to start cardiac rehab soon, however my recovery is going a bit slower than i expected. I suppose I came here to see if there is anyone else out there that has gone through the same thing and to get insight into other peoples experience of recovery post op. 😊
