I am what the Doctors say borderline my last echo was 2020 ef 50 to 55% I believe. I did try bisprolol for 12 days back then but found them difficult had to stop doctor said stop them. My main problem was pressure in half of head resulting in a migraine type headache. I got to confess the tablet scared me only prescribed 1.25. I suffer anxiety and asthma too boot. I am very sensitive to meds. This last two weeks my heart rate increasing a little it’s so hard to tell what’s causing what five days ago started a cough at night I was thinking my asthma playing up but not sure. Got phone call booked Friday morning with doctors I have no weight gain no swelling but chest creating Mucus do these meds side effects go away

55% isn’t heart failure. That quite normal.

50 to 55% is normal range. Bisoprolol works on heart rate to lower it . Has no influence over mucus regulation.

It might be meds but there's a lot of colds going around which affect people in different ways. The cold affecting my wife and I that we caught from my son lasted 3 weeks for all of us.

I believe that Heart failure is initially diagnosed by symptoms (Oedema, fatigue, cough, inability to concentrate etc )

Then if it is suspected, then the cardiologist might do further tests (e.g. an echocardiogram ) which will measure amongst other things the ejection fraction.

50-55% is not within normal heart failure range.

Mine is 61% measured by 3 different tests (Stress Echo, and 2 Nuclear scans) , but I do have some of the symptoms you allude to.

I am told that you can have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, otherwise called diastolic heart failure. The Left ventricle is capable of pumping out blood, but it has difficulty filling from the atrium. The last echo I had suggested "abnormal left ventricle diastolic function"

Could this be why your doctors say that you are borderline HF?

The symptoms you describe are of heart failure, and it does not seem likely you have it, but I am not a doctor and you should ask why you are borderline etc.

With an EF of 50-55% you are in the normal range. I suggest you see your GP regarding the cough and mucus as there is a nasty bronchial virus going around at the moment.
