Mitral Valve Clip

I was recently diagnosed with severe regurgitation of my Tricuspid Valve amongst other things. My Cardiologist is referring me to a team of specialists to see if I would be better to have open heart surgery or the Mitral Valve Clip procedure. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience about this procedure.

Manny Thanks 😊

hello Jennywren

I am waiting (and waiting) for a mitral valve repair and originally thought mitral valve clip op sounded good because it is much less invasive and you are home in a few days. However decided to get advice first from heart surgeon. It is mainly for patients who are older with other comorbidities and I was told if the Clip doesn’t work then a repair is more difficult afterwards. (Just quoting what he said). It is also a relatively new procedure (5 years). I would be very interested in what the outcome of your referral would be and what the outcome was as a 2nd opinion on the Clip would be welcome. Best wishes 🙂

hi Antique 50

Thanks so much for your reply. My cardiologist told me it would possibly take a couple of months to hear back whether I would be suitable for the clip or open heart surgery. I’m a bit skeptical as I’ve heard it isn’t always successful. I believe it’s a 3 hour op and don’t want to go through that, then have to have ops eventually. My thoughts are to get their opinion then see a heart surgeon that has been recommended to me and see what she thinks.I’ve had this leaking valve for years but since having a pacemaker with the wires going through it has made it much worse, I might add, no one ever told me that pacemaker wires had to go through the tricuspid valve. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I’ll keep you posted 🤗

hello Jennywren

I’m sure your heart surgeon will decide the best route to go for you. I’m afraid I Google everything and probably frighten myself to death. Just wish the very best for you. 🙂

Hi Antique50, I’m afraid I’m guilty of checking out Dr Google a lot too. My cardiologist gave me the impression that he thought the clip would be best as it’s less invasive, but from what I’ve read, I’m not so sure, I’m 69 and live in Australia. He is contacting this professor on my behalf but I know I’ll be getting another opinion, we only have one heart so I’m trying to make sure I make the right decision. Many thanks, and all my best wishes to you .
