side effects
I'm suffering quite a bit with side effects from meds. My legs ache a lot of the time in the shins, knees and hamstrings. I've have wind and stomach discomfort too. I have an appt with cardiologist next week so hopefully can discuss this with him. My rehab nurse rang me today about some of the problems I've been having since my HA in Novemember. She was quite strict with me and said if I need to go to A&E to be checked out I must go and, with my now history of cardio, I'm not wasting anyone's time up there.
Hello
I am so sorry you are suffering with side effects I know my cocktail of tablets gave me some and some still do
It can also be a challenge to find out which one it is
You are right though at the moment A&E would not be the place really to be best to sort this out especially as they are at the moment your Doctor would be better to talk to and I know getting an appointment with them can be so hard but even if you have to wait a few weeks could you not pre book an appointment at least you know you will get to speak with them eventually
Pharmacists are also very good at explaining about side effects from medications which might be causing you more side effects than others and worth giving a ring and talking this through with them
Also the BHF Nurses would be well equipped to give you advice on medications speaking to them may help
I will put you their number if you do not already have it
I hope in the next few weeks you might be able to tweak them and start to feel a lot better and not so down
Tell yourself this will be sorted just a little waiting about to get to speak to those that can x

Hi , following my Bypass surgery September 2022 I too couldn't come to terms with the medication I was having to take. Ramipril + Clopidgrel + Bisoprolol + Atorvastatin + Asprin + Lansoprazole + Aspirin + a water tablet whose name I've forgotten!
Every day week after week from breakfast onwards I felt nauseous 😫 and the thought I would have to continue taking all this medication that was making life pretty grim for the foreseeable future was pretty depressing.
Like you I turned to this site for advice to see if anyone else was suffering like me and what they did about it?
In the meantime I stopped taking statins that didn't make any difference I spoke to my GP they said don't! After a long chat with the practice nurse I took her advice and tried switching the times of the day I took my medication.
I was highly sceptical thought it was pointless.... to my amazement this worked!
It's not perfect and I hate taking all this medication but at least I can now tolerate it and can even stomach the odd glass of wine 🍷!
So, like Bekind says don't give up hope I'm sure you'll get it sorted and do speak to your GP.
All the best for the future. Denis
Hello.
I had side effects from Ramipril as soon as I was put on it in hospital it was making me cough all the time but the doctors never investigated to my rehab nurse when I saw her after discharge she knew straight away it was the Ramipril causing the cough and got the consultant to change it to Losartan no issues with meds now.
Are you taking Lansoprazole in the morning as I take it when I wake up and wait an hour before I have breakfast it might be affecting your stomach if you are taking it with your other meds as it stops your other meds hurting your stomach good luck.
Told to take them all with breakfast now split the artovastin in 2 take half in the morning and half at about 5 o;clock
Yes I'm having same issues I did get a gp appointment for the 19th this month
Hi I was on the same meds except ramipril and I had the same side effects but after the 12 months off being on ticagrelor they took me off them and the bruising stopped there's nothing to worry about as my gp told me it's just an unfortunate side effect
Good morning, I had HA in March 21 had one stent I went through the same thing it was awful I didn’t have rehab because of the Covid so I had different nurse calling me but they really didn’t know but just said it is the pills you have to get used to them I had a awful time. Then this lady from the hospital who introduced me to BHF she said do this so in the Evening I take 3 tablets which is Ramiprill, ticagrelor,Atorvastatin, in the morning I take the aspirin, Lansiprazole,Bisoprolol. And I have to say what a difference I spoke to my GP she said it was fine to do that way I am the same age has you I know it can be very daunting because I find at first all these tablets I have got to take but I did a plan for myself in exercise and walking test I have to say I have never felt better. I wish all the best you will get there it just takes a while.
I had v similar experience with dual anti-platelet (aspirin ticagrelor in your case) - they’re hard on your stomach. I was eventually told to take lansoprazole at least half an hour before breakfast, and to take the asp/tic on a full stomach. This definitely helped but some discomfort continued until I came off them after 12 months. Even then, the aspirin continued, and there was some occasional pain.
I had a stent fitted on June through my right arm. For a long time very anxious and tired but you have to remember your body has had a shock with heart attack and needs time to repair. It's 7 months on now and tho never be a 100% again I'm feeling better. I was a very fit and active person before this. None smoker and none drinker. Cyclist, hiker, kayak and used to be a runner. So give yourself time to heal. I'm 66 so was mega shock healthy people can take ill. Walk before you can run. Good luck 😘
my husband was the same. After speaking to his cardio rehab nurse and GP they altered the time he took certain drugs, reduced the dosage on two of them as his body just couldn’t cope with them, and added in lanzoprazole to protect his stomach. Took months to get the balance right, but he’s doing much better now. Less heartburn, only occasional pains in his joints and not experiencing as many dizzy spells. I would definitely try and speak to rehab and then gp.
Hi Borredom , I had two heart attacks this year and 3 stents fitted , I am on a cocktail as well and I still suffer with chest pain IE Pressure which keep thinking is another heart avent , But I've been to AandE a few times and they have said I am not having a heart attack but have not sent me for any test either so in limbo , there are side affects with ramipril which is hands and legs ache or get pins and needles in but I would not worry about going to Aand E if you need to as until they test you with blood test and ecg you really can't say , sorry to be so negative to a degree but like you worried sick and fed up of just being told go home and take extra tablets , take care and hope soon you may feel better ,
I had a similar problem and in the end I decided to drop one at at a time and eventually worked it out and got two of the medications reduced and my stations changed.
I was on pretty much the same cocktail of drugs after my heart attack. It's the usual selection. I had dreadful side effects and had every single one changed over the first year. You must persist with y our GP and get him to sort o ut the worst ones. Sometimes just changing the time of day you take them can make a difference. See if you can pin down what's causing what ill effect. It's not easy.
I was on the same drugs and did have lots of horrible side effects but was also suffering from anxiety which brought on more aches etc. I managed to see the year through and then had my meds, lowered or change and now feel really good. I
You should be able to stop the blood thinner a year after the stent op, so remind doc in March. Are you still under hospital, for follow ups? They are the best people to ask. Also a good few people find it difficult to tolerate Atorvastatin with bad muscle pain. Again ask hospital you were under to let you try an alternative. Perhaps Rovastatin or Prevastatin? Good luck, but for some it takes a bit of trial and error to find what suits.
Hi i had a stent fitted a week before retirement! still find it hard to believe i have really had HA any way since i take the same cocktail of drugs and my problem is extremely sensitive skin i constantly scratch and can feel a change in my body as the day progresses i bruise at will and will bleed from a pin prick. Basically it's driving me up the wall i have changed some drugs but little change. My quality of live was much better than before taking the pills!
Thanks for all the lovely replies and support will try and get in touch with GP again tomorrow or phone the hospital and get in touch with cardio
