Inflammation of the toe

I’m 75, with AF, and have been suffering from a red , and painful middle toe for a number of days.

Exercise is impossible, and I normally do a lot of walking, golf etc., so I’m not happy.

I don’t think it’s gout - I’m not a drinker, or overweight.

It’s worse at night, but is gradually responding to Ibuprofen.

Could it be a reaction to Furosemide, the diuretic ? I’ve temporarily stopped taking it but already have put on a couple of pounds.

Any thoughts ?

Hello :-)

It does sound like it could be gout or an infection of some kind

The Doctors are back open tomorrow and I know it might be hard ti get hold of them but even an appointment with a Nurse would do and you need to get it looked at and the right treatment as well as I am not sure it is a good idea to stop any medications without consulting them first

I hope you get it looked at and let us know how you get on :-) x

Good advice, thanks. Like so many parts of the country, this is a NHS black hole, so speaking to a medical professional is nigh on impossible, but let's see..

Hello :-)

I know it is nearly impossible to get to speak to someone now which that in itself at times worries me but don't take no for an answer that is my new motto when I am trying to contact them and so far it is working :-)

Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on :-) x

I wouldn’t have thought so and you need the frusimide to get rid of fluid that’s why you’ve put on weight! It may build up around your heart and lungs. I suggest you consult your GP ASAP

Thanks, Billiewizz. You're right, I'm on Furosemide for a reason and , as the toe inflammation has eased, I've gone back to it ; last thing I want is a repeat of the breathlessnes and swollen legs that went with AF in the first place. Fingers crossed...
