Viral Myocarditis Recovery

I recently had some intense palpitations which landed me in emergency for 5 days. I've just got back from hospital after this cardiac event with instructions for bed rest. Nothing is confirmed other than clear arteries, some damage to left heart wall, and raised troponin I (it was 6.0-7.0). I'm waiting for a cardiac resonance scan to confirm the suspected myocarditis. The doctors were quite optimistic about a complete recovery.

I've been having occasional arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat) and palpitations (racing heart) since leaving. These have been less intense and for much shorter duration than my initial event.

My question is this; Is it normal to continue to have minor symptoms of myocarditis while in recovery? Or should I hustle back to the hospital at the first sign of cardiac abnormality?

There is so little information online about what to expect during recovery, any help is more than welcome.

I'm afraid it's quite normal... myocarditis is apparently usually 3-6 months recovery, and the only consistent advice is rest.

I'm still recovering almost 6 months on... if you click through my profile you'll see my previous posts, or if you type myocarditis in the search bar you'll see others.

This forum has been wonderfully supportive- folks are friendly and questions are usually answered!

Morning , captain bird's-eye is spot on. !REST ,is the key! Learn to read your body.I was diagnosed with myocarditis in June 2022,. I can do much more than I could but it's slow and steady, hills are still a challenge although stairs are now much easier. Support from this group has been really great .take care

As an update, I'm back in emergency. Had more palpitations this morning and thought I should get it checked out. EKG was the same (minor damage to left heart wall) but troponin I was triple my highest last week - now 19,000- and 45 is normal. So I guess I'll be moved up the queue for the cardio resonance scan. Thanks for the answers.

The question I still have is about palpitations. I don't have any chest pain but do you guys have palpitations and arrhythmia?

Sorry to hear you got back in, but glad you're being looked after.

I definitely still get palpitations and ectopics, but then I'm still having pains and shortness of breath. I'm waiting for my cardiologist to see me again.

I think 45 is high for troponin... I was told that depending on the type of assay they use it should either be below 14 mg/ml or <5. Maybe your hospital uses a different test. 19000 is definitely high.

How are you getting on?

I'll be in hospital for awhile I think. They've started with some stronger anti inflammatory and beta blockers. Ekg and ultrasound are pretty good but troponin is staying high so it's a wait and see situation. It's day to day. At least the new drugs are doing a better job in controlling palpitations and tachycardia. Thanks again and good luck out there.
