Possible Blood Clots

Hi all, it’s me again!

So in the early hours of Monday morning I was woken by an intense pain in my chest and it took me about an hour to settle the pain and go back to sleep (after realising that it would go away if I didn’t move).

When I woke up on Monday morning the pain was still there but only when I moved. It took me 25 minutes to get out of bed and I had to go downstairs on my bum for a second morning due to feeling so unsteady on my feet.

I initially thought it was muscular so set about poking around prodding to find the source of the pain which feels constantly like I’m being punched in the centre of my chest from front to back, I feel like I’ve been winded and hit across my upper back with a cricket bat and radiates out towards my right shoulder and up the back of my neck. It gets worse if I lean or bend forward and I then feel a pressure pushing down on my chest and a surge of the pain which takes my breath away. The surges also happen periodically when I’m walking around.

By lunchtime I was worried and phoned my drs surgery to be told by the receptionist to call 999. I felt that was a bit extreme so I called my mum and asked her to take me over to A&E.

After 13 hours in various waiting areas, a bay (on a chair) and 6 hours sat at the nurses station on a plastic chair I was moved to a ward to wait for a chest X-ray and CT scan.

20 minutes later, I was woken up by a dr telling me that they needed the bed and they were going to start me on rivaoxaban to start treatment for possible blood clots as my markers on my ddimer results were borderline. She then asked me to pop into X-ray on my way out and that I would get a phone call later that day to come back and have my CT scan. She told me to return to A&E if I started feeling worse.

Yesterday morning, I woke up in pain again and with the taste of blood in my mouth. As I got up, the pain seemed to spread up towards my collarbone and has stayed like that since. I started feeling more out of breath and generally uncomfortable so by 11 am I was back at A&E and after 2 borderline ECGs I was taken to SDEC (same day emergency care) to wait for a CT scan. I sat there from 1:30pm until 5:30pm to then find out that there were anymore slots for CT and I will be phoned tomorrow (today as I’m posting this) to come in for the scan.

I’ve been woken several times through the night by the pain and I’m not looking forward to the possibility of another day sat at the hospital getting few answers. Yesterday all of my ECGs were borderline and at times my heart was beating really fast.

Has anyone experienced blood clots and can give me some advice about what sort of questions I need to be asking when I go back in tomorrow please?

Sorry for the long post! As always, thank you for reading 🙂 Best wishes, Soap

You are going through a difficult time, i do hope you get some clear answers today. My only comment is that perhaps calling 999 might have meant a slightly easier journey through the Hospital system. I waited a good while when we called 999 for bad chest pain recently. The wait for an ambulance was bad but once they arrive the path is simpler through A and E when the paramedics have already done the triage.

That does make a lot of sense and in hindsight I wish that I had called 999 now. Next time I think that’s what I’ll do although I hope that won’t be any time soon!! 🙈

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, best wishes, Soap

The current NHS difficulties probably makes us much more uncertain at times like this. I hope it all works out well for you.

i be would ring 999 again, or have you the option of going to a different A&E, blood tests should show if it is a hart attack or not, with ecg to back it up,

Don’t wait you can’t replace your health & you don’t sound that good.

Good luck hope your ok

Unfortunately no other A&E locally.

My trop levels were fine is was just the blood clot markers were borderline. I’m back at the hospital and have a CT scan booked for 12 so hopefully I’ll get some answers today 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Hello,

I have had a deep vein thrombosis.

It was found by ultrasound. My d dimer was borderline.

D dimer blood levels can be raised for other reasons, not just blood clots.

Hopefully your CT scan will be able to see where any possible clots maybe. It could be in your calf or lungs.

In the meantime be reassured that you have been prescribed an anticoagulant which is the usual treatment for these type of clots.

I was prescribed heparin injections which I did myself.

Good luck.

Firstly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took time to reply to my post, it really is so appreciated!

Thankfully I didn’t have any blood clots but the dr thinks that I just haven’t got on with the dapagiflozin so I’m not waiting for my cardiologist to call me back to discuss a plan for moving forward.

Still experiencing the pains but feeling much more reassured that I’m not in any imminent danger 😁🙈

Have a lovely evening to anyone reading!

Best wishes, Soap

Unfortunate you have still got the pain, but at least it sounds like your getting somewhere,

Take care & all the best 👍
