I get a feeling as if I am in an elevator that suddenly drops or on a rollercoaster. It seems to come from my stomach area. It lasts only a few seconds, sometimes a bit longer, but it is very scary. Occasionally when I take my pulse it is erratic. It can happen at any time, even when sitting quietly and it comes totally out of the blue. After these episodes I feel anxious for the rest of the day.
I take 2.5mg Bisoprolol which was given to me due to a minor AF episode. i have been taking this medication for over a year and no other problems.
Having spoken to a doctor about this strange feeling that I get they did not seem bothered but it is getting me down and I would love to know what is causing this.

I know exactly what you're talking about . I use to get that feeling as well. For me I think it was a stress issue. I use to get it a lot but not so much anymore. When I do rarely feel that again I stop what I'm doing , sit down and do some deep breathing. The thing that worried me is I would get it even if I wasn't consciously feeling stressed.
Hi there, I know exactly what you mean ! Thought it was only me. I get it on & off throughout the day and often at night too.
Again no drs seem particularly concerned about it , my pulse is often erratic at the time but that’s the nature of paroxysmal AF I’m guessing. I get it when I’m NSR too, but wondering if it’s just an ectopic beat.
I was on bisoprolol, now on diltiazem but I still get it regardless, so it wasn’t the meds I don’t think.
So I try to ignore it or do a few deep slow breaths & carry on . I do remember having it a long time ago when I was going through an anxiety phase after a bereavement and didn’t have AF then .
Anxiety may well be playing its part too as the more I notice the more I get it . Not sure if this is helpful, but you’re not alone.
You explained it very much how I feel it , that sudden “drop” feeling , like the lift dropping a few floors or even once in a plane during turbulence the plane drop’s suddenly.., it’s very unpleasant and anxiety causing .
I had a successful cardioversion and afterwards I had the same "butterfly stomach" feelings. My GP was not concerned but did comment that it might be related to the vagus nerve. It lasted for a couple of months and gradually faded away.
I have been taking bisoprolol for many years due to a situation where my heart would miss a beat or add one in. It has developed further to a point where I have had a pacemaker fitted. I still take bisoprolol to slow the heart beat down and the pacemaker then speeds it up.
I get a similar sensation to you but it seems more like a flush starting in my tum and going up to my head. My Doc at first put it down to the heart problem but has now accepted that it could be a hormone problem. I did a private check which showed that I was high on SHBG Proteins. Just handed in a 24 hr urine sample for testing
Hi, I get the same feeling. I have always assumed it is something to do with the heart jumping up and down. My heart jumps from over a 100 down to thirty something then back up again. It is a bit unnerving and makes me feel a mixture of anxiety and excitement at the same time. Wonder what will happen next............
This was something I used to experience not long after I was diagnosed with myocarditis. It faded away eventually, but it was back last night (only get it when lying down)... I'm going through a stressful time with work again so I'm beginning to think it's stress/anxiety related for me.It's such a difficult sensation to explain... I usually find I gasp when happens as well.
I take 1.25 mg Bisoprolol which was prescribed since I had A fib following open heart surgery (I am getting this reviewed soon). I also get the feeling from time to time, usually when I am worrying about something, so I have never followed it up.
I would take steps to reduce the anxious feelings. You say your doctor is not worried about the erratic pulse. I don't know if they are a generalist or cardiologist but I would seek a 2nd opinion (from a cardiologist).
This feeling was happening before I was put on Bisoprolol. I hoped it might help.No side effects from the medication. I just do not know what causes this feeling but it is so unnerving.
