40s quite fit and healthy living . during regular check up diagnosed with arthrclorosis and 4 stent put in 4.5 weeks ago.on ticaregrol, aspirin, metroprolol twice and rosuvastatin 40 mg. taking for last 6-7 weeks except ticaregrolol. Had few good days last 4 -5 days suddenly from y'day feeling shortness of breath..quick mild pain on left side chest and occasional muscular pain. Moment I feel like it's anxiety but been bit worried since yesterday as I had good few days . My follow up is not until end of next week's . I am on rehab and doing well with exercise etc. Does anyone have similar experience? What symptoms you seeing and how you deal with that? Following as suggested, still symptoms exist

Non smoker and non drinker.on strict diet never overweight or any other conditions. No HA planned stenting

If you have new chest pain pain and breathlessness you should call 999.

If you have a GTN spray I would try that in the meantime.

yes I have very mild discomfort across chest...used to have similar symptoms when started statin. I am fine when I am exercising..I did my hr exercise part of rehab task and 30 mins brisk walk , easy house work and I am fine no chest pain or shortness of breath..usually it's on rest ... Pain doesn't increase..it remain constantly same more like discomfort or tightness.

Thanks Backtotheblues. I am on rosuvastatin 80mg , yes I exercised and it's all good . Also I do get random muscle pains on back ,arm, leg on both side ..it's so random. Sometime it maybe an anxiety or medicine but if that goes for while I start to be concerned. I have appointment with cardio on Wednesday hopefully be able to get some answer. It's almost 5 weeks and having this symptom worries me a bit.

thats long time to have that symptoms it sounds like medicine . Hopefully they be able to resolve your issue soon

thanks

as others have said I'd definitely check about coming off ticagrelor with 4 recent stents. I have six covering 4 locations in 2 arteries after a mild HA and I'm on the reduced 60mg dose for a a few years after a year on 90mg. The only side effect I've experienced of easily bruising (very common) is not a problem and I just see it as insurance against stent causing restenosis.

I too get occasional aches and back pains on exercising but nothing consistent enough to worry or to use gtn spray, but I also do sometimes worry as my heart attack pain was mild and atypically located in my shoulder - exactly where i get muscle aches. Gtn spray does nothing so I put it down to muscles...

thanks firstlight40, wish I could been told I have to be on ticaregrol 90mg for year only been 5 weeks so far. However I am also on rosuvastatin 40mg and metroprolol high dose even I don't have high blood pressure and cholesterol around 2.5. hopefully I may go with lower mg based on what I read muscle pain may come from statin.

Have a follow up with cardio hopefully some good news for me.

Hello ,

Definitely check the ticagrelor ,I was on it for year like most people.

Re. the chest pain ,I had HA may 20,and upper chest pain in Oct 20 went to AnE it was described as muscular .Under MSK team doing stretches etc no improvement, and still having bouts of discomfort in upper left chest ,it comes on after heavyish lifting but a couple of hours later, I can still do cardio exercise and get HR up .

U have since had myocardial perfusion and angiogram and the specialist says it's muscular not heart related .

I have since read it could be nerve damage that could take years to heal

Totally baffling

Sodp in reply to pjw17

thanks pjw17, quite reassuring in a sense it's not heart maybe muscle pain..since I am on few strong dose of medicine. Hopefully cardio review my medicine and sort out the pain I am having

hi. I am fit and healthy etc and always have been. Had 3 stents 7 weeks ago. The first few weeks were slow and my RHR was 42 ish and i was knackered, but when i was taken off the betablockers it was a step change in improvement. I have done 4 park runs and swim 1000m regularly now. Check your RHR, maybe its something like that? But dont push it.

Sodp in reply to PaddyRedVan

thanks Padsyredvan, congratulations good to hear things has improved. It seems you had a similar issue..I am also on metroprolol 50mg. And rhr for me is around 54. I felt it could be a beta blockers . I may have to speak to cardio and see if I can change things. I don't think they will completely take me off maybe reduce mg and eventually take it

yes, absolutely - of all the meds, the anti platelets are the most important for the first year after the stent had been inserted. It stops blood clotting on or around the stent.

Sodp profile image
Sodp in reply to The_Voice

thanks The _voice.exactly i not hoping to drop ticaregrolol for a year , once year passed it will be dropped off..hoping my metroprolol dropped and statin reduce to lower dosage. I should have some ideaon on 6th when I see my cardio for a follow

Can I ask why you are not taking ticagrelor? It's usually prescribed for 6 months to a year after stents to prevent them from blocking. YOu definitely need to be checked out. I had trouble with ticagrelor which got so bad I stopped them just 3 days before I had to go back for another angiogram. The cardiologist went absolutely mad. He was furious. He did swap them to clopidogrel but said it w as he most dangerous thing I could have done stopping them. By the way my problem with ticagrelor was that it made me feel as if I couldn't breathe. I could, my sats were fine but that feeling of struggling to breathe was so bad I begged my GP to change it and he wouldn't. I didn't know what it was for so, since I was soon to see the cardio, I stopped it. Bad move.

hi Qualipop, side effects from each medicine is huge.. I am taking ticaregrol and won't be stopping for at least a year ...key medicine for first year. I have an appointment with cardio on Wednesday..will discuss about two other med I am taking .. beta blocker and statin...decreasing dose I too have shortness of breath sometimes but can't tell if it's ticaregrololor other 3 meds. So did you still get the symptoms after switching to copiderol?

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Sodp

Sorry when you wrote "except ticagrelor" I thought it meant you'd stopped it. Like you after my Heart attack and stents I had dreadful problems with the side effects of tablets and ended up having every single one changed. Don't worry, there are alternatives for all of them. Ticagrelor caused what felt like shortness of breath. IT is a listed side effect; it felt very much like an asthma attack y et my oxygen levels were fine. Absolutely no problems with clopidogrel. Bisopralol knocked me out and dropped BP way too low. All I wanted to do was sleep

Hi Sodp - the unknown unknowns are a real pain aren’t they?!

Ticagrelor is a well known cause for shortness of breath. It also affects the level of adenosine in your body which can lower your heart rate with symptoms of bradycardia. If your RHR is below 60 bpm, you shouldn't be taking bisoprolol (as stated in the meds paperwork). Chest tightness and palpitations are also common, along with bruising and bleeding gums when brushing etc., so knowing that these are all known ticagrelor side effects should hopefully help with any anxiety, and they do a great job of preventing platelets from sticking / clotting, which is exactly what you need right now. Also, you’re on them for a limited time, and the side effects apparently clear up after around 3 days of stopping taking the drug. I have 42 days to go myself (can’t wait!) and learning all the above over the last few months has really helped me, so hope it’s helpful to you too. 🙂👍🙏

Key thing is to engage with your GP with any concerns as the medical professionals, but I just wanted to share with you that all the ‘issues’ I’ve had to manage / deal with have been related to my meds, not my cardio vascular system (thank goodness!!)

With sincere best wishes - Mark 🙂🙏

thanks 3MSF that was reassuring, glad you coming off ticaregrolor soon. I have 11 months to go :). My cholesterol is not so high hopefully can bring my statin dose down . It's causing some muscle pain.

good

Hi Sodp,

Regarding statins, they do more than work to reduce ‘bad’ cholestorol - they also look to stabilise existing arterial plaque to prevent unstable material causing heart attack risk amongst other things. Again - your GP is in the best position to give you the professional guidance and advice that we all need from time to time 🙂🙏

Sodp in reply to 3MSF

Hi 3MSF yes read few places about that.. I had borderline high to start with and now it is less than 235 . I know it l be one I possibly be for life . While stenting I been prescribed a heavy dose. Hopefully on cardiologist recommended I may reduced to lower doses.

sounds all to familiar to me. I eventually had a stress test which showed my heart was okay. Some of mine was caused by anxiety but mostly the meds. At the one year point I changed from tricagrelor and also halved my statins. It only took about 10 days and I felt amazing. Breathlessness and chest pains gone and my extremely painful joints stopped.

thanks thatwas expected my cholesterol and blood pressure is quite normal..was given to me as precaution before stenting..and high dose, will not be changing anything without discussing with GP/cardio . If don't think have much choice till next year coming off ticagrelor.. maybe I can work and bring metroprolol and statin to lower doses and see how it l reduce my symptoms.. specially muscle pain across ..

as usual walk I do 30-40 mins I did 50 min with slightly quick pace..was fine while walking..however once home felt bit sharp pain on left side. My blood pressure seems normal and heart rate was 69 after resting 5 mins dropped to 64. For some reason my systolic seems to be between 120-130 but diastolic stays high 70 or low 80. Is this a concern? I don't know if it's to do with low EF (0%). I had stent fitted should that along with diet and lifestyle EF should improve eventually.

Any new symptoms like shortness of breath and chest discomfort should be checked out immediately. It's better to rule out anything serious first, then concentrate on other possibilities. Please do contact 999/111 for advice. You could also contact your rehab nurse/GP for further advice today

thanks everyone for your response, been really helpful. Saw cardiologist as 6 weeks follow up post stenting . Most of my medicine stayed same except metroprolol 25 mg two time ls per day instead of 50mg. My cholesterol is now 2.1 and ldl is 1 however since it was procedure done for at least a year suggested me to stay on high doses 40mg rosuvastatin and review in 12 months. Bit confused with pain etc. Cardio said those stent pain should only last few days to week. Where as rehab team , cardiac nurse and HF said can be up to 6 weeks bit confusing, who to trust? As I get random pain
