Has anyone noticed new Varicose Veins in the leg that the Vein for Heart Bypass was harvested?
My bypass was 2015 and they used the vein from my left leg as part of the procedure, I have noticed recently a couple of Largeish Varicose Veins in the leg that the vein was taken from. I have nothing similar in my other leg. Just wondering if this is a common issue or just age related.

Simply YES had 2 x triple bypass ops over 12 years and the veins where harvested from each leg, so have Varicose veins in both legs. Cardiologist confirms NOT UNCOMMON
Thank you for the replies, I also have the thread veins, and if I give the area a light squeeze it is still moderately painful, suppose that is to be expected after the removing of a very large vein !!
ps that's after almost 7 years don't suppose it's going to get any better now lol
Hi there Prada47, I had a by-pass 32 years ago and they also harvested the vein from my left leg, but couldn’t use it so instead used the artery which fed my left breast muscle. I too have varicose vein’s in my left leg and the inside ankle is still very tender and painful if I accidentally knock it. However, I’ve had my deep veins tested and found to be fine, it is only the surface ones which are unsightly, but I can live with that and at 81 I don’t have any hang-ups about how I appear to the general public, I’m just thankful to still be here and enjoying life and looking forward to getting married in December 😃.
Well I put my story on here a few weeks ago my vein came from my right thigh from groin to knee not suffered with varicose veins as yet and my op was in 1977 45 years ago.I have had some hip problems and the physio says it’s muscular not skeletal. I have asked doctors etc. if a lack of blood supply could be the cause but they say not.Had my op at 31 now 76 play walking football and keep fit re bike riding as well.
Presently going for Guinness Record for longest surviving triple bypass patient which stand at present 34 years.Must say never thought id be here to tell the tale.So all it’s not the end of the world in my case it was the beginning.
