Do you mean side effects ? Most medication has side effects but can vary from person to person. I was on rampril to start with but gave me a dry cough so it was swapped to amlodipline along with candesartan. I used to suffer with swollen ankles until I was taken off amlodipline and now on a stronger dose of candesartan.

Your prescribing health professional will have decided what is best for you based what is available to them to prescribe, and given the health conditions you present.

If you believe that your medication is not doing its job as intended , or you are suffering side effects, you should go back to that prescribing professional.

Most people on here are not qualified to say whether any medication is better than another, further complicated by not knowing your detailed medical history.

I'm on 5mg, and no side effects. Over six weeks it has lowered BP by 40.

So I'm happy with it.

Essentially there are three main types of blood pressure medication. No one type is better than the others. It is just a case of finding what suits each person and getting the dose right to do the job.

i fully support what GWP1952 and LowerField wrote

there are many medications which can be prescribed to control BP, but we are all different and sometimes it is necessary to try different combinations of them to achieve a good result - i.e. controlled BP and no side effects

your prescribing doctor should be prepared to try different combinations - your pharmacist can also be a good source of info and support if you are concerned about side effects, timing etc

Hi, I was put on Amlodipine about 6 months ago and one 5mg tablet bought my blood pressure down to exactly where it should be. I’m afraid I have a BUT, my feet and ankles have swollen up really badly. Had blood tests to check it wasn’t a heart issue and so now I am awaiting an appt with GP to discuss Amlodipine being the cause? The time line would suggest it is and it is a pretty common side effect I understand. It’s a shame because it’s a brilliant med for blood pressure in my humble opinion, it certainly was for me but some days my feet are so swollen it hurts to walk. I hope you get on ok and don’t have the swelling. Good luck 🤞

Hello, i had a similar problem. I tried a few times and had to stop because of the swelling. And then my GP suggested 7.25 and 5mg on alternate days. It works perfectly for me. Perhaps talk to your GP about doing something like that? I hope you find a good solution.
