Heart attack
I copied this from NHS site. “We remove any clothing from the waist up and you then lie down on an echo bed, on your back. We will give you a hospital gown to wear with the front open. This is so we can track your heart's activity. We then place sticky patches (electrodes) to your chest, which are connected to the echo machine. This first echo is called a resting echo, so we can see what your heart is doing when you are resting. We then repeat the echo, but after you have done some exercise. If you are not able to do the exercise, your doctor might do a Dobutamine echo test instead”.
When I had it the only unpleasant bit was when the drug induce my usual angina. But it was reassuring they could ‘see’ it. The effect didn’t last long.
Hi Guitarlewis, nothing to worry about I had this done a few months ago. It is a number of times a doctor adds a drug to your body and then your heart is scanned using like a microphone. They aim to get your heart to reach a certain level for your age. I had no pain until I had reached the point they wanted. This just lasts while they scan for a matter of minutes. You are then given a drug to bring everything back to normal. I found the most discomfort from the pressure from what I call the microphone! And this is completely bearable. Do not lose sleep over it and it does provide a lot of evidence as to what is going on and has gone on in your heart. Very best wishes .
Hi. I went for a stress echocardiogram a few years ago and they were going to use drugs but on the day they decided to put me on the treadmill instead. Just in case they do the same I would advise you wear jogging bottoms and trainers to your appointment as I had to run in trousers and work shoes and got some wicked blisters!
Good luck with your test.
Thankyou for the info and advise thanks again
