Ranexa 375 mg prolonged-release Tablets \ Ranolazine 375 mg. Has anybody had any adverse effect from this medication.

My angina has recently become unstable. I did encourage my to GP to increase my dose of Ranolazine 375 mg to 500 mg. This caused continuous severe angina to such an extent I had to go to A & E, as having a good three double blasts of my GTN spray no angina relief had happened. A few hours later, after this drug got out of my system, the bad effect (burning chest pain)went away. I explained this to the medical team in the hospital, and no one believed me. When I was discharged I had an argument with a Dr who said I had to take this amount 500 mg or I would have another series of angina episodes. I went on to explain that it was I who encouraged my GP to increase the dose in the first place. Just because it’s got 500mg on a piece of paper doesn’t mean it’s a correct amount. Another Dr intervened and said to increase my Bisoprolol which so far has done the trick.This is leading me to believe that it is the Ranolazine 375 mg maybe causing the unstable angina. I cannot find any evidence of this using Google. I cannot find that much about Ranolazine anywhere except the standard Mayo / Drug.com websites.No one will change me from this drug as I would agree, it's up to the cardiologist who I will be seeing in November. I am sorry you have had some problems.

It's a shame that some medical staff don't listen to their patients!

I have Vasospastic angina. I was prescribed beta blockers which made my angina much worse, I ended up in CCU as a result.

I experience most of my chest pain at rest and in the night.

I now, know, beta blockers are contraindicated if you have vasospastic angina.

I was prescribed Ranolazine instead. That caused palpitations and again made my vasospastic angina worse.

I suggest you keep a diary of your symptoms and the medications you are taking. Discuss this with the Cardiologist at your up coming appointment.

I have my adverse reactions to these medications documented in my medical notes. I suggest you ask your reaction to Ranolazine is documented in your records too.

We all respond to medications differently. I also can't take Candesartin as it dropped my blood pressure drastically.

Unfortunately I live with Refractory Vasospastic angina.

None of my medication really works.

I Leszo, sorry to hear of your problems.

I have Microvascular Angina and was prescribed Ranolazine at 375mg which was then gradually increased over time. Eventually I started suffering from intense "heart spasms" which calmed down after I stopped taking the Ranolazine.

I believe Ranolazine works for some people and not for others, and like Milkfairy says, everyone reacts differently to drugs. Your cardiologist no doubt will prescribe you a different drug.

I have actually just started taking it again at the 375mg dose (a couple of years after I stopped), maybe I just can't tolerate the higher dose...it may be the same for you or you may find something else works for you!

So sorry to hear of your medication issues, I fully sympathise, having struggled through some very challenging pain/upset and conversations with dismissive doctors. Fortunately I was given a brilliant Cardiologist who fully explored my conditions and was, following tests, able to provide the diagnosis of MVA and Coronary heart spasms: he originally started me with 375mg Ranexa and this was increased over a two-year period to 500mg and eventually to maximum 750mg (2x a day) this, along with the introduction of 40mg Isosorbide Mononitrate (also x2) a year ago, has been absolutely brilliant - seriously reducing my coronary heart spasms and massively helping to control my MVA allowing me to truly keep on top of everything…. I feel so lucky.

I also take Lansoprazole (30mg) and Amlodopine (10mg) once each every day.

I know that it took me just over two years to find the right balance of medication with super help and guidance from the aforementioned Cardiologist ( so grateful!); also I recognise not all medication works for everyone. I was very worried and had huge headaches with the Isorbide Mononitrate for about 3 weeks for example, but having stuck with it, I feel so much better.

I had an angiogram with acetylcholine which confirmed my diagnosis of vasospastic angina.

Ranolizine works really well for me, at 750mg, but my cardiologist was clear from the beginning that it is total ‘marmite’: brilliant for some, horrid for others.

Hello, I am sorry to hear that you are having these problems. I have been taking Losartan, Aspirin, Ticagrelor and Atorvastatin also but no major side effects. I have noticed that you aren’t taking any acid reflux medication i.e. Lansoprazole or Omeprazole. I was prescribed Lansoprazole to take with my tablets to act as protective coating to prevent heart burn which can be mistaken for angina. May be worth asking your GP about it?
