Hi,

The information leaflet normally tells you what they are used for... but in short, Bisoprolol is a beta blocker used to lower blood pressure/heart rate and Amiodarone is used to treat heart rhythm issues like AFib.

Thank you so with my AF the heart rate needs to be lowered to the time Amiodarone controls the Rhythm? It’s 6 weeks since I was out in the Amiodarone or do they work together for life only I haven’t been told to decrease the beta blocker and obviously missed my cardio as I wasn’t in AF now I am booked to have a portable monitor to wear for 24 hours

The two do work together, but I'm not sure if you need both for life - I studied Pharmacology (how drugs act in the body), but I'm not medically trained so can't offer any advice there - that's definitely one for the doctors.

But if it helps - the bisoprolol is a beta blocker so this blocks adrenaline from acting on the heart. Normally when adrenaline acts on the heart it will increase heart rate, so bisoprolol will reduce that effect and keep the heart rate lower, making the heart's job a bit easier.

Amiodarone relaxes the heart muscle by blocking potassium, so this helps the heart maintain a steady rhythm.

Wouldn't recommend any changes until the doctor advises... hopefully your 24 hour monitor will give a better picture of what's going on and the doctors will then be able to advise on best treatment.

Patience isn't one of my virtues, but I'm coming to learn that these things can take time, as frustrating as that can be 😊

Thank you very much for taking the time to help I understand how they both work much clearer now
