Severe Breathlessness 4 weeks after Triple By Pass

A week after discharge I started to get very severe loss of breath after even very short walks. This has got worse and I can hardly go from Bedroom to bathroom without fighting for breath. Sitting down improves matters quickly. I've been back to hospital and had many tests. They could only suggest a lack of Iron, Blood Transfusions , which they did, and prescribe different tablets. I was 5 days in hospital, and have seen no improvement since.

I think this is highly unusual, right ? Docs at hospital and my GP have all said it will improve in time. But I don't believe them. Anyone else experienced such extreme loss of breath ?

It sounds more like it would be related to something else, they collapse your lungs for the bypass so if that was the issue you would have had that all the time. Don't let them fob you off

Has a similar issue when discharged but mine was due to still having fluid left on the lung, (was sent home early with fluid tablets) ended up being readmitted 1 week later and a further 2 week stay in hospital to get things cleared up. I know a lot of people say about the coughing and breathing exercises being a must-do to get the lungs back into some sort of shape for use and I couldn't agree more. I wish you well and hope you get sorted a.s.a.p.

Hello :-)I am sorry you are struggling

Lack of iron can affect your breathing and I know you have had a transfusion but they can take a good 3 weeks to start to give you the full benefit which I hope when it does your breathing may feel better

As your breathing is better when you are sat keep doing your breathing exercises they do help strengthen your lungs back up

If you are still not happy then let them know but I hope over the next few weeks you see an improvement :-) x
