Fantastic. I received the Golden Jubilee medal although not sure where it is. I doubt many people will ever receive a platinum one again!

in reply to Heather1957

Hello Heather :-)

Don't mind admitting I am noisy as well as some say I waffle on here but that is me :-)

What did you get a Golden Jubilee medal for ?

Of course you don't have to tell me but I am intrigued

I think the only medal I have ever got is a swimming one and that will have been only swimming a length or something like that :-)

You are right it is very doubtful anyone will get a Platinum medal again :-) x

I was in an occupation that receives the medals (I'll say no more!!) I was only a year into that job for the silver jubilee and you had to be 2 years employed to get that medal and I retired in 2006 so only managed to get the medal for the Golden Jubilee!

in reply to Heather1957

O right :-)

Well done it must be so nice to receive something like that :-) x

The trouble is when you are single I very much doubt any relative will want them!

in reply to Heather1957

I would hope they would not only because it was yours but that is a piece of history ! :-) x

My sister handed on medals to me, that my great aunt received for working on the ambulances in WW1. So they are precious to keep - and a starting point for family history too.I don’t even have the swimming medal that you mentioned, though I’ve always saved my swimming certificate. Mainly due to a misprint - I was the only one in the class who ‘swam a length in good style’ in 1066!

in reply to Gumbie_Cat

Hello :-)

O my goodness medals going back as far as WW1 that is fantastic and I agree these things are precious and should be kept you are right it is part of your family history and to be treasured :-)

I am sorry back then you missed a medal ( they were only cheap plastic ones if I remember right as I do not have it now not sure my family would have seen that as a part of history :-D ) but you at least got a certificate :-)

I enjoyed reading you reply :-)

I hope you are keeping well :-) x

Thank you - I hope you are doing fine too! I’m looking forward to my first cardiology appointment - just two weeks now.

in reply to Gumbie_Cat

Hello :-)

I am struggling a little bit but keep trying :-)

Two weeks will soon go pass and let us know how your appointment goes :-) x

I’m sorry to hear that - sending good wishes. I ‘only’ have atrial fibrillation, and I moan about the side effects of the dronedarone - but really I’m lucky as I’m reasonably asymptomatic otherwise.I’m hoping to get further tests, to set my mind at ease - hopefully! It could work both ways I guess…

in reply to Gumbie_Cat

Hello :-)

Having peace of mind is very important :-)

I hope your appointment achieves this :-) x

That would be a real shame if no-one in your family would treasure this. (I know I would).

Sorry to sound morbid but things like that are a real connection to those of our families who have now gone and but are fondly remembered, I don't have medals but I did receive many years after he died my grandfathers hand written exercise books in which he kept all the recipes he had for cooking for the troops during WWII.

It is by far the most precious thing I have.

I think if they are your own children they may feel different but I think things change when they are more distant relation. I agree it is sad though.

Hello :-)

I remember you and remember you going back to work which has obviously worked out :-)

Well done you deserve that medal :-) x

Awww well done you !!! Great achievement. 👏

How proud should you be? On a scale out of ten, I would say at least eleven. Well done to you and all NHS staff for the brilliant job that they do.

wow ! huge congratulations and well deserved - I know we hear an awful lot of negative stuff about the nhs these days , but those working in it are truly angels, I'm so grateful to you all that I have my good health back atm , everyone I met was so kind , helpful etc porters, cleaners, tea lady, nurses, consultants/surgeons etc - all the best

Congratulations can I ask the reason you got the meddle? Is it because you work for the nhs if so , did all nhs workers get one ? I’m just curious

Hiya, we got the medals for more than 5 years service at time of the jubilee, less than 5 years service got jubilee coins.

Well done Smudge! I got a thank you badge earlier this year from my local NHS trust for working (volunteering) for them during the last 2 years, and I'm rather proud of that, so I can imagine how much more proud you must be :)

Congratulations for winning such a beautiful decoration and hope you are coping with the present situation when all working in the front line are tremendous stress because of increasing demand and not enough resources to cope.
