Hello :-)

Do your feet and ankles go down when you have been in bed all night ?

If so this is a good sign if not then you need to see your Doctor now

Warm weather can make them swell , my left one is the one that seems to come up in the heat but when elevating which is good to do my foot or after been in bed it goes down

I have shown my Doctor and she is more than happy it is nothing to do with my heart but I would let yours know that you are getting swelling and let them check you over :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Just read this, looking for info as my feet are swelling every day even when it's not very hot. They do go down a bit at night but soon come up again. Noticed today my skirt waistband very thight and measured my waist and it is 2 inches more than normal.

I have just had a echocardiogram that was ok and now waiting to have a 48 hour ECG monitor but don't know when that will be. I will try and contact the GP they don't make it easy.

Hello :-)

Good news your echocardiogram came back fine and good luck with the ECG I hope that is ok to :-)

It could be you are holding a little water retention but needs checking even though I know the performance trying to get through to the Doctors and then f you do you have to get through the Secretaries ! but keep persevering remember it is your health and you need to look after yourself :-) x

Hi, I contacted the GP on Thursday and a doctor is going to phone me Tuesday afternoon. The wait for the ecg monotor could be another 6 weeks or more yet. Did have quite a detailed letter from cardiology about recent tests and in between I have been emailing them with concerns and have had replys and answers which I thought was very good.

in reply toanke123

Hello :-)

That is good been able to email and get some answers that way :-)

Soon will be Tuesday and I hope you get some more answers when you get your call and will still let us know what they say :-)

Thank you for your update on how you are getting on :-) x

Hi, I spoke to the GP on Tuesday and he thinks its fluid retention so decided to try some water tablets for a few weeks. Been taking Fursomide 20mg since Thursday but it seems to be making little diffference, I wee a bit more but not that much.I will see how it goes the next few days and might have to phone the GP again.

I will drink more watersee if that does anything.

Hello :-)

I can imagine it is fluid retention that is what they say mine is but the heat does not help on a cool day they hardly seem to swell at all in the heat though they really come up

I am sure it was Furosemide when I came out the Hospital after my Bypasses I was on but I cannot remember the strength I was on but what I do remember is that I would take it in a Morning and then for at least 4 hours I would be back and forth to the toilet but with such force it started to become painful and unbearable

Eventually it got to much and they have put me on another one which I cannot remember the name but when I was coming of Furosemide they did warn me I might start getting swollen legs or feet so I am wondering if your Doctor has started you on a small dose to see how you get on and maybe you need a higher dose ?

If it stays the same then yes I would phone the Doctor again and if you have time let me know how you get on :-) x

You can get water retention in your feet, waist and face, it can be because you are not drinking enough water.

But to be safe you should go get it checked out properly.

Take care.

I am drinking a lot of tea some of it herbal perhaps I try more water, I do go to the loo a lot at night. Perhaps I should lie down with my legs up the wall like we did in a yoga class

Mine are because of heart failure (not as scary as the term suggests!) I’m in diuretics to help as the extra fluid can make your heart and lungs work harder. If you’re getting breathlessness as well as the swelling you should certainly see your doctor.

I am waiting for the outcome of an ECG today and may be diagnosed with heart failure thank you for your (not as scary as it sounds) comment this has made me feel a lot better as I am anxious waiting for my GP to call me today - keep well yourself

Hello Just to say you are asking a complex question and all we can offer is our opinion and to give you what we have been told by our Health Care Professionals. You don't say what Medication you are on or why you think you may have Heart Failure. I am not sure if HF can be diagnosed accurately by an ECG I think you may need a Echocardiogram or an MRI to diagnose. I can tell you my Heart Failure Clinic Nurse told me if swollen ankles are at the end of the day don't worry, IF you have swollen ankles first thing in the morning call me !!!

Regards

Hi, yes the warmer weather can cause ankles to swell. However, if you are in any doubt talk to your GP. Another way to check is to weigh yourself. More than a couple of pounds in a 24 hour period or 5 in a week can indicate something that needs investigating quickly. If in doubt get checked out please. Good luck

Thanks for your comments. I am having a ring back from GP this afternoon regarding ankle swelling. Hate waiting about. I hope she asks me to go to the health centre my ankles are pretty swollen today. Sitting here like a dumb cluck waiting!!! X
