Hi Cowparsley

I have been on 60mg daily of Furosemide without any side effects. Its weird how some meds cause horrendous problems to some people and nothing to others !! Hope you start to get on with Furosemide it's a standard for treating fluid retention.

Regards

Watch your blood pressure as it does lower it which obviously can cause dizzyness. Kevin was taken off it to get his BP higher, which worked.

Will do as BP already very low.x

Very pleased to hear you've taken prompt action, cowparsley. I hope that the furosemide does not cause you too many side effects, and that it does the job quickly. All the very best to you.

Not at all, cowparsley - I have seen the consequences of excess fluid build-up too often, and I would hate to think of anyone having to deal with those unnecessarily. Now you know the signs, you can act really fast if it ever happens again. And I hope very much that it doesn't, and that you continue to be stable.

I am allergic to Furosemide which is a Loop diuretic. Thiazide diuretics affect me in a similar manner. Just one dose makes me feel like I want to die. It is really bad - pain all over, no energy, etc. I just lie in bed unable to do anything. I discovered that these drugs strip out my potassium, so I have to have a potassium-sparing diuretic. If your symptoms persist, get the drug changed. Please do not suffer in silence.

I had nothing like that.Just a short episode of dizziness and blurred vision.I can deal with that if the drug works but thank you for the advice.

hi cowparsley-In many cases the effects are shortlived and fade .this is why most heart meds are steadily increased .hope it works for you

Hello my husband had furosemide whilst he was in hospital , no side effects obvious, but as he was having lots of other medication think it would be hard to tell. It was very effective and reduced most of the 2 .5 stones he had put on in weight.

However since coming home he has bumetanide , which doesn't seems as effective as furosemide, he has some fluid in feet, ankles and patches of it in his abdomen. It seems to have a very drying effect on throat . like you my husband has low blood pressure, I personally favoured the furosemide , at least it seemed to work, hope things settle down for you.

Gosh, that`s a lot of fluid.Mine was just 7or 8 lbs.Hopefully that will shift. It`very uncomfortable around the abdomen.Every time I ate my stomach swelled so I thought I was in "Alien" and something awful was going to burst out!!

I’m on furosemide I only take one in the morning and the only effect is hard on me is I have to empty my catheter leg bag more often

cowparsley in reply tobuddy2blue

Glad you`re not getting side effects. My step son has a permanent bag.Is yours permanent?

buddy2blue profile image
buddy2blue in reply tocowparsley

Yes it is permanent. Dose he get meany infections with it?

It sounds awful , my husbands appetite is nil, it is very difficult to try and get him to eat ,when it is clearly difficult, glad to hear your fluid retention was less.

Yes I can understand his reluctance to eat.Little and often might work.

We are trying that at the moment, he says things taste differently, also the thirst doesn't help.
