My 24 hour holter monitor results are in. Doctor explained no AFib but evidence of Ectopic heartbeat. He didn't suggest any treatment as I am on Bisoprolol already. GP suggests live with it and report if gets uncomfortable. He didn't tell me the burden figure but I suspect low - when at rest. So far it is the odd single beat in the morning so not too dramatic, but still scary. I see Magnesium supplements might help - Any views please or recommendations - I am on Ramipril, Amlodipine and Bisoprolol. Andrew
Update - Cardiac Nurse at GP suggests my ectopic beat could be due to being over prescribed beta blocker. I am already on 10 mg Ramipril and 10 mg Amlodipine. For example my resting heart rate recorded on the holter monitor 48 to 62 which might mean at rest in the morning my body kicks in a says this heart rate is too low - restart - causing the jolt. Suggested I reduced Bisoprolol from 10 mg to 5 mg for the next ten days, monitor BP and next appointment on 27 June. Finger crossed. BP tonight on 5 mg (First day) - 107/71 HR 62. Will keep you updated. Andrew
Mine was similar. Registrar just brushed over it. Didn’t even explain what it was or anything. Previous registrar albeit telephone call suggested an MRI. Then he left and new registrar said, “what MRI… no mention of it here.” So that was it. Cardiologist I was discharged to locally found a soft systolic murmur at the aortic ejection port. Again, never told me or discussed it with me, just wrote about it in a letter to my GP. You have no choice but to just hope these people know what they are doing or care. I’m waiting for a 24hr ambulatory blood pressure device and an echocardiogram. 3 months after referral, there is still no known appointment date. Good luck and I wish you well.
I have ventricular ectopics, for which I take 2.5 mg bisoprolol. This is pretty effective. I just get an occasional flutter or an occasional thump.Ectopics are very common, but the more you think about them, the more noticeable they are. Honestly, my best advice is to ignore them and get on with more interesting things.
I'm on bisop 2.5mg for ectopics did start of on 1.25 but they weren't strong enough but also have a leaking heart valve and that messes up my rhythm and stuff.
All I can say is be careful of magnesium as some people it has the opposite effects.
Sorry for the late reply, thank you for responding, I suppose we just have to trust the experts. Although my latest update is that my nurse suggests I might be over beta-blockered. We shall see how the next few weeks go and keep plodding on. Best wishes, Andrew

Hi Hidden just wondering if you have any updates as the same thing is happening to me and I am on similar meds. Once everything kick-start then I am good. Can't help but think that the Bisoprolol at 10 mg is causing the problem. My resting HR has dropped from 64 / 65 BPM to 55 BPM over last few months which is how long I have been having the ectopic beats
