Apologies for not being on here for a while ( I belong to a fb group which is mainly about my type of operation ) but when I did post here I found people very supportive.
On this date a year ago, I had an aortic valve replaced and an ascending aortic aneurism repaired at the Royal Papworth Hospital.
I was 73 when I had it done & although I was in hospital for 2 weeks because of my age , I've come through the surgery with no setbacks. So if anyone is facing this type of operation, you'll be fine !
I can't praise the staff at Papworth Hospital highly enough

Hi Isobel - I was 5 months post op (AVR) yesterday it’s a wonderful feeling isn’t it ? Everyday I am delighted by how very well I feel compared to the previous years how much energy and vitality I have !! I can’t praise the NHS enough they were brilliant and when I really needed them they were outstanding ! Life has changed a bit no booze no caffeine and meds to take - but what a tiny price to pay for a future ! Enjoy your good health I plan to!
Your surgeon will probably advise you about valves. I get the impression if you're over ? 60, they're reluctant to give you a metal valve because of having to take Warfarin afterwards for the rest of your life. If you're on facebook, I strongly recommend this group. It's brilliant & everyone is so supportive & friendly facebook.com/groups/1864350...
