Was started on bisoprolol last June and then after MRI had phone review with consultant in January who said that my EF had improved up to 52% from 42%, but he still increased the dosage to 5mg daily! Why dosage increase? What is the maximum daily dosage people are on?
Thanks

I assume your consultant thinks the drug is improving or at least stabilizing your condition, depending on what it was prescribed for.I am on 10mg a day, which I think is the maximum dose.
Hi. I’m on 10mg as I had two episodes of atrial flutter earlier in the year. I hated it at first as I had terrible insomnia but after a few months the side effects wore off and it’s fine now. I’ve also had no more episodes of atrial flutter. I would ask the cardiac nurses why you’ve had a dose increase.
Normal maximum dose for arrhythmia and heart failure is 10mg a day, but my understanding is that it can be used up to an absolute maximum of 20mg a day at a consultant’s direction. I have SVT and for 6 years yo-yo-ed about on doses from 1.25mg all the way up to 10mg and back down again depending on how well my condition was controlled at any given time. You would need to ask them for certainty, but it may be that your consultant wants to see if an increased dose of bisoprolol leads to further improvement in your EF.
Hi Seaguller.I've been on bisoprolol 2.5 for years. After a pacemaker reading it was upped to 5.I ached all over and was too tired to exercise.Instead of doing the sensible thing and seeing my gp I just went back on the smaller dose.Next Pacemaker reading was fine.I am certainly not suggesting you do the same.Discuss it with your GP and ask why it's been upped. If you get the symptoms I experienced ask to try a different beta blocker which is what I should have done.Good luck.x
