Stents worries on Y junctions

Hi, after10 months of in and out of A+E and being told it was stress or anxiety, I went private for a X-ray scan revealing blocked arteries ! Back to the nhs and things have been a lot better I’ve just had a angiogram revealing 80 and 90 % blockages on my left side angiogram stopped and risk assessed, I now need 2 consultants and stents at the Y junctions in my LAD my question is what to expect after the procedure ? Will I get back to normal ? I’ve read on here a lot of stents not working very well ? I afraid I’m going to be a broken man after tomorrow.

Hello, welcome to the board, there are lots of helpful people here who can respond from their own experiences although we are not doctors here.

I too had stents at the bifurcation points on my LAD a year ago. I also had stents in my left circumflex artery a fewcweeks beforecwhich caused my heart attack.

Although my heart attack was minor I am very well and the six stents I have had not had any bad effects and I went back to work full time 2 weeks after my last set of stents.

The doctors will tell you there are some risks in placing stents but it is much lower than open heart surgery or not doing anything. Of course you are properly monitored through the procedure which might take an hour. Since you have had an angiogram you will know what happens, the procedure is very similar but just takes a bit longer.

Stents done as non-emergencies are often treated like day cases so you are home in the evening.

You will be put on some drugs which are standard to prevent stents getting blocked for a year and I would imagine you will be on aspirin and statins for life.

But do ask your doctors if you are worried, I'm sure you will be reassured by them and by the other replies you get here.

Don't worry!!I was diagnosed with angina 8 years ago, I had a heart attack last June due to a blockage in my LAD that needed a couple of stents, one of which was very awkward to fit.

I now feel brilliant and I have more energy and feel fitter than I've felt in years.

Immediately after the HA and angioplasty I tired very easily and it did take me a few months to start feeling better.....part of this was due to getting my medications sorted.
