Bp advice

fedupoffeelingtired profile image

Hi all, I am a little concerned about my BP. It's slowly getting higher, today's reading was 157/79. I am also hearing my heart beating in my right ear all the time which is a little unsettling. I have contacted my GP, currently only can do so via an online request form which can take up to 48 hours to get a response. I am two years post HA and stent. I have been quite active walking a minimum of 3 miles a day, completed couch to 5k last year and have kept up doing 5k runs 2/3 times a week without any problems. Any advice whilst I wait for my GP would be appreciated. Thank you

The GP appointment situation is frustrating but have you tried to get an appointment with the practice nurse for BP check? It’s worth a try. If they are concerned about your BP they will tell the doctor before you leave, at the very least your concerns and the BP reading will be documented in your notes and a follow up can be arranged. It’s easier to get a face to face doctors appointment via an initial appointment with the nurse than reception. Regarding your blood pressure, I can’t offer any advice with that but do try a nurse appointment to see if that gets you a GP review. Take care x

I agree with bingofox007 .

My normal BP has been the same as yours for a few years with no other symptoms.

Occasionally it peaks and I have visited Aand E and had Dr appointments.During COVID visits to the GP were difficult but I rang the surgery and voiced my concerns and asked could I see a nurse to have my BP checked.

The surgery cannot ignore this and I have to say the nurses always acted quickly and I always got a follow up with my GP.

I am now on medication and having regular followups and that is due to the nurse being vigilant.

Strange times we live in when not so long ago you could request a home visit now it's impossible to see your GP face to face.

I hope you feel reassured soon as this alone increases your BP.Best wishes

Yes , take your BP 3 times a day and write down the times. DO it after sitting for 5 minutes or so. Take it for at least 4 days; ideally a week and send the readings to your GP so they can take an average. They prefer that to just one reading in the surgery
