Blood Pressure

In the past six days my blood pressure has gone from being normal to high, some readings frighteningly so. All of this is due to having a feeling of pressure on my chest which started a week ago and has been stressing me out completely.

I keep on taking my blood pressure over and over, but the more I take it the higher it gets even if I try slow breathing. I have tried almost willing it to come down, but that doesn't work.

I am pretty certain that I have got myself into a vicious cycle of stress and anxiety causing both the feeling of pressure on my chest and the high blood pressure.

Had telephone appointment with GP and was told to keep a log of blood pressure for a couple of weeks by taking three readings, three times per day. Also to book a blood test and ECG at the surgery, but that will take ages to get an appointment. Will then review the situation and decide how best to proceed.

Trouble is I have woken up for the past few nights with this feeling of pressure on the chest - it is definitely worse when lying down.

Yes, the more testing you do the higher the pressure, that creates stress which creates more pressure and up you go. You souldn't do it. Take a reading and leave it fo an hour, meanwhile do something to relax and only when you feel relaxed read it again. Yes it is in your mind, but stress plays a very important part in BP.

After I had my all clear..ish ECG, I stopped using my monitor.
