Battery change in my s.icd

Can't believe it's 5 yrs since I had my icd fitted down to last 15 percent on my battery I'm having new battery fitted in next 4 weeks 😳 😐 🙃

Hope all goes well. Unless it’s different with an ICD they replace the whole unit not the batteries.

I hope all goes smoothly. I had mine replaced last year. I was not unduly worried but it turned out to be much more unpleasant than I expected. The local was insufficient and I found the op. very painful. Afterwards the surgeon did say I should have a proper anaesthetic next time. I seem to be in the minority as most people sail through it. Also when they started the op. they discovered one of my leads was draining the battery which would shorten the life of the new battery. I felt this should have been tested earlier as it could have meant a different procedure. This made me anxious as the surgeon went and phoned my consultant for advice before making the decision as to whether to proceed.

As I say this was my experience.I am sure yours will be fine but do ask questions about level of sedation. I am petite and according to research this can influence the pain levels.

Hi Wodney1966, my husband had his ICD changed about July last year. He didn't have any issues with it, small amount of pain but nowhere near as bad as fitting the original ICD. His GP prescribed co-codomol, I don't think he took more than 3/4 of those as he got by on paracetamol. He didn't have any leads changed so much quicker than the original OP & recovery much quicker as he didn't have to worry bout dislodging them.Good luck, let us know how you get on.
