What is “normal “ tiredness

My 83 year old dad had stent inserted 11days ago

Also has pneumonia which is easing

But he is so extremely fatigued-despite having a good 10 hours sleep each night he falls asleep at the drop of a hat through the day

Is this to be expected at this early stage ? I think it is but he’s anxious over it

Hello :-)

Your Dad has been through it

I had pneumonia when I was 55 or 56 not sure now but it is exhausting

Heart attacks came later

Taking into account your Dad's age and him having a stent as well as pneumonia I am not shocked he is exhausted and needing to sleep

The old fashioned saying I remember is the body heals while we are sleeping and maybe that is what your Dad's body is doing sleeping itself better :-)

It is early days and hopefully you will start to see small improvements and he will gradually build his energy back up again

If you do get concerned though have a word with his Doctor they may need to do some blood tests but will reassure you which is what we need :-)

I hope his recovery goes well and as it does let us know how he is getting on :-) x

I have no idea what is normal. I had 3 stays in hospital last year. Heart Attack, later back for more stenting then end of July Heart Failure. I am in my 70s. A couple of years ago I was seemingly fit and healthy. Now I sleep 8+ hours a night and have a crafty hour to hour and a half nap in the afternoon. This is 6 months after my traumas. Your dad is only 11 days from his stenting - wow and pneumonia as well. I personally reckon that his sleeping is quite normal. But if you are concerned have a quiet word with his GP. He's been through a hell of a lot recently

Hi. Having had pneumonia twice, and cardiac intervention, at a younger age than your dad, I strongly suspect his behaviour is to be expected. I was absolutely exhausted and one of the hospital residents said it takes longer to recover from pneumonia the older you are, and sleeping a lot is very common. He needs reassurance, so if that means a call to the GP, then that's easily done. He needs to keep doing his breathing exercises (I remember they provoked coughing - but that's a necessary part of recovery too), and a few short walks are probably a good idea, but he will get very tired very quickly.

How is his BP? After mine, the bisopralol dropped my BP so low I couldn't function at all. Of course it depends on how much damage was caused by the heart attack. YOu really need to get your GP involved
