Persistent Afib with severe left chamber damage. First cardio version and TEE ON WEDNESDAY for my 50 year old active otherwise healthy husband. What can I expect? He’s been in Afib for weeks when his check up (first in a decade) revealed his heart rate at 150

Newly diagnosed Afib . Meds working for Bp but not for Afib. Cardio version Wednesday
Hello, I hope this helps. I had a CardioVersion 3 yrs ago and heart beat returned to 60bpm. There are a few things that will help enormously and prevent AFib recurring - he might not like this but - no alcohol or just a little on celebrations , use DeCaff Coffee/Tea and drinks and if necessary lose weight. These three causes really do effect the heart especially alcohol. If CardioVersion does not work then an Ablation usually does 90% successful but this requires another day visit to hospital and a bit more involved. Hope CVersio works Wednesday. It’s a very safe procedure. All the very Best to you and your husband.
Thank you so much. I will keep you posted. I really appreciate your responses; this is new to us because we eat well and exercise. He wants to do a lot now even though the meds control his bp but not Afib after week. I hope his journey is resolved somewhat how yours unfolded. Stay healthy and so grateful for your input!
Don't worry about the cardioversion, I've had 2 and the only side effect is a sore patch on the chest and back where they put the paddles, just use some cream/lotion to ease any discomfort, it will go in a day or two, good luck but don't forget you will be in good hands
Just had cardioversion on Friday there...I have had no pain or discomfort...there were 3 of us in for it..and all were successfull...I was diagnosed with Afib then Heart Failure...around Dec last....after the initial shock and anxiety, I am feeling a lot better. So wishing your husband all the very best...there is some good advice on here from people who have experienced going back into Afib,so I intend to take their advice, especially re alcohol....difficult but better to abstain.
This is so helpful… thank you so much! Very encouraging!
