Hi,
When I excericse and have a pause, my watch registers Afib . As my heart rate slows down the afib goes away.
I'm new to afib , I'm taking apixaban and beta blockers to control it.
Is this appearance of afib during excericse normal?
thank you

If it's an Apple Watch, you should take an EKG when this happens and then show it to an electrophysiologist (ep).
If you don't have an Apple Watch, you might want to get a Kardia device to take an EKG when you feel it happening.
EKG analysis by an ep is the only way you can tell if it's a fib or not. A watch "registering afib" without an EKG is not accurate enough.

Thank you Jim. It's a Samsung watch which requires putting one finger on the sensor then does a ecg.
I Will invest in a kardia 6l.
I'm not familiar with the Samsung, but if you can take a good quality EKG with it, that's probably good enough. The trick is to get someone knowledgeable to read the EKG. Many and even some are not up to the task. Electrophysiologist are..

Personally when I was in af,if I did something strenuous my heart would race but as soon as sat down would settle- this is what the beta blockers do, its when you do something and heart doesn't settle is problematic
I don't have a smart watch or anything to measure my heart rate when exercising. But my heart does beat faster and I can get breathless. But doing the exercises help me with my disability and Osteopenia in my left hip . My cardiologist says it's ok if your heart beats faster and get breathless. But it you get chest pain stop and if it doesn't get better with 20 mins phone 111 for advice .
I have PAF on Flecainide and Apixaban. Been on Ramipril for years for high blood pressure. I do get palpitations and heart flutters but can get those just sitting down . So I take no notice of them . As I feel the exercises do me good .
I do sit fit classes once a week . Have static pedals at home do 300 rotations on those daily . Plus 7 wake up exercises and using ankle weights only 500 g each and use 500g dumbbells do weight bearing exercises for my arms and legs . During class we use resistant bands . Sit down exercises and standing back of the chair plus walking exercises. Sit fit is not an easy option as some may think . But due to my neurological condition I can't use gyms . But been doing sit fit since 2018. When my first instructor gave me a chair as it was an ordinary keep fit class but it meant I could do the same as everyone else but my way.
When I moved house 5 years ago went to my first proper sit fit class.
No idea if this has helped. 🤷🤸
helped massively
having got past a heart attack and then continued with the gym it's a case of listen to your body.
Glad to help. If it's any help my brother has AF ,2 stents in his heart, had mini stroke , bad angina attack that meant a nurse had to sit with him all day. Stent in his brain due to a piece of metal falling of the HGV he drove on his head and caused a bleed on the brain . He walks at least 10.000 steps a day. Swims lengths for a hour every morning at 6.30. lifts weights at home . Has an alottment. Had a hip replacement 5 months ago . Carer to my lovely sister in law who has MS . Her dad lives with them he's 93 but very active .
I am 66 my brother is 65. He gave up work 5 years ago as my sister in law needed full time carer . I have lost 7st over 5 years and my brother 8st but he did it over 18 months .
It's not bragging but it's to show age is never a barrier or ill health to doing a bit of exercise or living your life to the full on your terms .
I am 70 years old and last year out of the blue I suddenly started to experience chest pain on the right side which was uncomfortable but not really painful. It lasted over 4 hours so I went to A and E. I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and a resting heart rate of 112 which is worrying.
Apparently this was caused by my testosterone level which was far too high. I was issued Bisoprolol which did reduce chest pain and later this year I had a cardio version which worked immediately and now my heart works great, no chest pain, and can do everything i want to do.
Most homegrade or consumergrade ECGs are meant to be used during normal conditions, ie when heart is not stressed or during exertion.
For those stressed circumstances, you should instead rely on medical grade ECG or 12 lead. So, I would exercise caution if based on your smartwatch. Use it as a guide, but get pro confirmation.
Apple Watch HR can already go iffy during exercise. Chest straps are much better and are the reference points.
