How can I come off Bp meds when lifestyle changes are not a factor?

What can i do to come off BPs totally? I’m 57 & have always followed a healthy lifestyle not drinking/smoking, exercising regularly and watching my weight.

Well, quite possibly you will have to take meds to keep your bp down as I do despite drastic changes in my lifestyle.

If it’s in your genes you have to rely on meds. My doctor told me that many years ago.

It’s more what the issues are within the body rather than the lifestyle. The meds are treating the problems that caused the issues.

This is really a question for your Dr. However, as others have said, often high BP is not caused by lifestyle even though it can be affected by those factors.

If your lifestyle is really good, including your salt intake, and your bp is still high then unfortunately the short answer is nothing. The long answer is also nothing, but with just a few more words added in. Hypertension isn’t always to do with lifestyle.

In your other post you say your BP is 110/65.

You don't say why you are on any meds, what other meds you are taking and what your BP was before starting meds.

Hi, I should have said high blood pressure. Losartan 50 and Bendroflumiziade (water tab) 2.5. From looking at my 2 yo fit bit for the Pulse readings, they seem to have dropped to mid 50s this year, slightly higher in range 57-61 throughout 2019. I did ask an online GP and he said some people do have low resting pulse rates In the 50s and wasn’t that concerned.

Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, getting older is a factor in blood pressure getting higher for many people - and there’s not a lot one can do about that. As long as you’re following a healthy eating regime - and doing daily exercise which utilises cardiovascular exercises - that’s about all you can do. I can empathise with you though, I too have the same issue re having to take pills for BP!! 🤗

I think I find it frustrating because it comes across solely as a lifestyle disease in the press. I work with a number of women the same age or younger than me who drink, are overweight and don’t exercise yet they delight in saying they don’t have any health issues. I wonder why I bother with my spin classes, the 5 miles+ walks and the 30+ miles cycle rides!

Try meditating.

I’ll give anything a go! How long a session?

Not as easy as it sounds - no longer than 15 mins if you’ve never done it before - you’ll get bored. Google how to do it - for beginners.

I’ve had BP meds since I was 25. Never smoked, been healthy, never over weight. Cardiac surgeon told me last week it can simply be a mix of genes and being unlucky. Not a lot you can do about that unfortunately....

(Cardiac surgeon was due to a heart attack 3 weeks ago and now preparing for quad by pass op in a couple of months time)
