Apple Watch heart functions
I was considering buying one, but when I looked into it I would also have to buy an iphone to get the best out of it.I spent about £80 on a Huawei smart watch that tracks my heart beat, oxygen saturation, stress level and a few other things.....it's interesting to look at the information it provides on the app on my phone.
Is it accurate?
I don't know, but it gives me a trend in terms of what's going on with my body....at the moment I'm suffering from a terrible bout of sciatica and it's clearly manifesting itself when I look at my sleep data and stress information.
Many thanks for that I use iPhone so would not have to buy new phone heard a lot of negative things about Fitbit will take a look at huawei and see what thief range is 👍
I’m not sure I get the most from my data- but it does give me reassurance re my heart rate & as JohnH said with his alternative shows trends. I used to have a Fitbit that alerted me to my heart racing (heart attack & bypass followed) so I am a fan of a tracker. I chose the iwatch this time as have iPhone but it’s no better than my Fitbit (or probably other versions too) was - so depends how much you willing to spend.
I have an Apple Watch on one wrist & a Fitbit Versa 3 on the other + have also used a Garmin previously. Reason being is that if I get a dodgy reading on one, I can check other to see if that concurs. Of them all the Apple Watch has tended to give the most accurate readings but, if I’m cycling I’ll also put a Polar chest strap on and use with a Polar watch (attached to handlebars) which gives more accurate readings still!
Call it overkill, but after 2 HA’s I like to know, as best as possible, what’s going on!
All give good recorded info and ability to enter other data like daily BP & weight etc into their mobile phone apps which is useful for then relaying to Doctors etc as and when you want.
Hi there,I have an iWatch and I love it.
I used to have a Fitbit and it worked well but found it was biased more to activity. The iWatch is more to health in general.
The iWatch also sends out a message, if i fell or collapsed, to emergency services, my wife, my daughter and our dog sitter (who is also a friend 😂) so someone should be able to get to me.
This really works! I fallen a few times because I have a knee that gives out on me (I need a new knee). The iWatch asks me if I’ve fallen and do I need help? If I don’t respond it will send out the alerts.
I have also checked the heart rate by also taking it manually and it’s always been correct give or take a beat.
My wife also has an iWatch. We walk our dogs in the New Forest so if we fell and there’s no one about the watch would send out the message, brilliant.
It has many other benefits but it’s a lot of dosh so do your research.
One of the benefits is that it’s telling me it’s time for my morning cup of tea in bed. Well I don’t want to waste my retirement getting up early now do I? 😵
I personally don't monitor my heart rate or rhythm.
I will take my pulse if necessary.
I end up in hospital about once a year with unstable angina.
I picked up my husband's atrial fibrillation by taking his pulse. Confirmed by an ECG at the GPs.
It depends why you feel you want to monitor your heartrate etc.
Will it reassure you or cause you anxiety?
