Is this normal after nearly 12 months

Hi, I had a aortic valve replacement & bypass last February. I have still not had a follow up appointment with my specialist. I just wondered if it is “normal” to have a sensation of pressure on the front and sometimes back of my chest and the left side of my scar is still tender. Thank you x

Hello :-)

Personally I would say that you should be followed up by your Consultant until they thought you were doing ok and then they discharge you so I would say it is not normal

I would talk to your Doctor as I am almost sure they should follow you up for a while and I would mention about you scar etc

I had a triple bypass 5 months ago and I am still getting calls of my Consultant so I think something is not quite right , maybe you have been overlooked but I would certainly be asking

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Dear Mrgriff

It does seem a longtime for your follow up appointment and maybe a quick call to your Drs will speed that up for you.

Also tell them what you are feeling about your chest, the pressure feeling can be both normal and not. It could be caused by many things and not just your heart, but it really needs investigating because it is not normal for you.

You have to remember that I am not medically trained, but your scar also needs a medically trained eye over it.

It maybe nothing, scars tighten { cream helps } but tenderness could be a slight infection or just pulling.

Please get some attention for your problems and let us know the outcome.

You are in my thoughts

I would definately get in touch with your doctor and tell him/her of your concerns, then you should get some answers. I expect covid will be the reason for the delay

Do not think there’s any set rules of follow up after surgery. In my case a six week post op meeting with surgeon and in short as I was feeling ok he said his job was done so look after myself and no need to see him again. Think it maybe depends on where you are and how your cardio team works. At the very least you should have been seen by nurses immediately after you got home and your GP for medication review after twelve months. Best call your health centre and ask the question. Good luck
