Stopping heart attack meds After 12 months

I have stopped Ticagrelor and Omeprazole after taking for 1 year following 1 stent fitted for heart attack. I did not wean off them just stopped. I've had bad stomach ache, constipation, feeling sick, acid since, particularly bad laying down I'm thinking it's because of stopping Omeprazole? Any ideas maybe I should have slowly cut down on this not just stopped?

It was on my discharge notes from hospital to stop both after a year.

My guess is you are likely right in that suddenly stopping omeprazole is the cause of your problems. Your body has had some of its ability to surpress production of stomach acid for a year and is now no longer supressed so is more than likely overcompensating. My advice is to talk to a pharmacist to discuss your situation who may advise restarting your omeprazole on a reduced dose ( assuming you have any left) and also arrange an appointment to speak to your GP asap.

Yes I am taking aspirin. I was thinking about restarting it.

I had awful trouble taking dispersible aspirin and struggled with PPIs.

My doctor said it was ok to switch to coated aspirin and have had no trouble since.

I've spoken to the pharmacy today they said to go back on Omeprazole and contact GP. I've also wondered if it was the aspirin. Do you take the same dosage just in tablet rather than dispersible form?

Hi Lily I am on Lansoprazole and coated Asprin. Do I really need to take lansoprazole then?

Kind Regards

H

I take enteric coated/gastro resistant aspirin. The 75mg dose is the same as for dispersible. And are widely available over the counter.
